It was another one of those cool, windy days on the softball field as Raton hosted the Laguna Acoma Hawks for a district double header Friday afternoon, April 8th \u00a0at Jim Wade Field.<\/p>\n

Laguna started the scoring off in the first inning in both games with a single run followed by Raton who pounded the ball scoring two in the game one and then racking up six runs in the first inning of game two for a big lead.\u00a0In the first game, the Lady Hawks rallied in the fifth tying game at four. Raton however responded with two runs\u00a0of their own on an inside-the-park home run for Jadyn Walton\u00a0for a two run lead and held on to finish game one with\u00a0a win over the Lady Hawks 6-4.<\/p>\n

As game two got under way, the wind picked up a bit and fly balls were dropping like rocks, causing problems for outfielders fielding the ball. Raton used that to their advantage and pounded the ball for six runs in the first inning of game two. But then the Lady Hawks turned the tables and made the bats connect for two runs in the second and another five in the third to take the lead.<\/p>\n

Once again the Lady Tigers responded and tallied up three runs with the help of errors to take back the lead. Raton added two more in the fourth, but this game was far from over, as Laguna added three more to the board in the sixth making it a 10-11 ball game. Raton again responded with a single run and held on to keep Laguna from scoring in the seventh for another district win 12 – 10.<\/p>\n

The wins Friday leave Raton atop the district at 4-0 with an overall record of 11-1.<\/p>\n
