it was an winning weekend for both the girls and the boys on the ball fields as both teams plunge into district play and as coach Mike Marez puts it the regular season.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The Lady Tigers took to the road Friday making the trip all the way over to Laguna Acoma near Gallup for their second district match up. The long trip however was made easier as Raton won the first game 24-5 in four innings and 14-1 in five innings in the second game. Natasha Archuleta pitched the first game and Tina Jaramillo pitched two of the five innings in game two.\u00a0<\/p>\n
From there the ladies travelled east along I-40 and south to Estancia for a game on Saturday. The varsity girls won their game 8-0 while JV put up a great effort but lost their game 10-9.<\/p>\n
For the boys it was a shutout in both games Saturday afternoon as they hosted Santa Rosa for their first district game of the season. Coach Mike Marez started a freshman pitcher for the first district game saying the young man earned the start. Freshman leftie Cole Medina went the distance and pitched a no hitter according to the stats and earned another win in his short baseball career. The first game only went five innings with a 12-0 win for Raton.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Senior Dylan Query took the mound in game two and went four innings. The Lions picked up on Query’s throws and finally managed to get three hits on the afternoon but couldn’t get any runs across the plate. Ethan Washburn came in for the close in the fifth and threw a no hitter and walked one. Again the Tigers wrapped a bow on the game with a 12-0 win.<\/p>\n
