\nAs we are preparing to celebrate Independence Day, the Colfax County Fire Marshal’s
\nOffice would like to remind residents and visitors that county and statewide fire
\nrestrictions remain in effect due to continued elevated fire danger conditions.
\nAdditionally, the Colfax County resolution 2026-47, prohibiting the sale and use of
\nfireworks remains in place to help reduce the risk of wildfire and protect our
\ncommunities, natural resources, and emergency responders.
\nWhile some areas of Colfax County have received recent rainfall and are experiencing
\nnew grass growth and greener conditions, these precipitation events have not been
\nsubstantial enough to significantly improve overall fire conditions. Fine fuels remain
\ncapable of carrying fire, and underlying drought conditions continue to present a
\nheightened wildfire risk. Although the recent moisture is welcome, we are not yet out of
\nfire season.
\nAs residents and visitors celebrate the Fourth of July holiday, we encourage everyone to
\nkeep fire safety in mind:
\n\uf0b7 Please be aware of and comply with all county and state fire restrictions.
\n\uf0b7 Avoid any activity that could unintentionally spark wildfire.
\n\uf0b7 Keep vehicles off dry grass and vegetation whenever possible.
\n\uf0b7 Properly extinguish cigarettes and other smoking materials.
\n\uf0b7 Have a water source or fire extinguisher readily available during outdoor
\nactivities.
\n\uf0b7 Consider attending a professionally organized fireworks display where available.
\nTo help ensure a safe holiday weekend, local fire departments and public safety personnel
\nwill be conducting additional patrols throughout the county. Their presence is intended to
\nprovide assistance, increase public awareness, and help keep our communities safe during
\nthis period of elevated fire danger.
\nWe appreciate the cooperation and vigilance of our residents and visitors. By working
\ntogether and exercising caution, we can help ensure a safe and enjoyable Independence
\nDay celebration for everyone while protecting our communities and the beautiful
