SUMMARY:CU: Fisher's Peak Outdoor Recreation Opportunities and Q&A
DESCRIPTION:Hosted by Wally Wallace and Allyson Sheumaker \nSaturday\, December 14\, 2019 at 4 PM – 5 PM \nA.R. Mitchell Museum of Western Art\n150 E Main St\, Trinidad\, Colorado 81082 \nOn September 12th 2019\, Colorado Governor Jared Polis announced that the iconic 9\,633-foot Fishers Peak will be featured in Colorado’s newest state park — making it publicly accessible for the first time to local citizens. At more than 19\,000 acres\, this property will be the second largest state park in Colorado. In conjunction with an array of partners — including the City of Trinidad and Colorado Parks and Wildlife — a team of graduate students from the University of Colorado Boulder\, commissioned by The Nature Conservancy\, has worked to identify meaningful outdoor recreation opportunities in the park while preserving the property’s natural and biological values. The team has spoken with industry experts from a variety of recreational activities to analyze potential opportunities and constraints in the new state park. The students’ work is an early step in the process of assessing the property’s potential for recreation\, conservation and other activities which will continue thorough next Spring. Their assessment proceeds the state’s formal public planning process which is slated to begin later in 2020. Join the graduate student team at the A.R. Mitchell Museum of Western Art on Saturday December 14\, 2019 at 4 pm as they present their findings.
