The Raton School board met Thursday June 19, 2025, for their June meeting where they went over the collective bargaining agreement with the NEA and dealt with other policy updates.

Brandy Carrasco was present and spoke about fees for students such as fees for shop, cleaning fee for science class. It seems almost all the classes have a fee associated with them and as a single mom it is very hard for me and my student to meet the requirements. It’s also hard for a single mom to help with fund raising as it often occurs during work hours for her. Students are fund raising for several activities to help cover costs of such things as homecoming, prom and sports activities.

The only changes for the NEA contract include mileage reimbursement for staff that travel between schools. Bereavement leave is the only other part of the agreement that had any changes. The contract will cover the next three years for staff and faculty.

Myra Baird noted in her financial report that the district is in the process of closing out the year and preparing for next year.

The board approved the SPED handbook as there were only minor changes. The handbook is required for the IDEA B application. The IDEA is a federal program and is seeing some cuts to that funding.

The board received bids for professional services for physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy.

Occupational Therapy Services – Unlimited Teletherapy, LLC

Physical Therapy Services – Rocky Mountain Physical Therapy

Speech Language Pathologist – Unlimited Teletherapy, LLC.

The board approved Resolution 2025-05 which proposes capital improvements tax ballot question. The board then went into executive session for limited personnel matters.
