**FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE** COLFAX COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE INVESTI-
GATES INTRODUCTION OF DRUGS INTO VIGIL MALDONADO DETENTION CENTER
Location: Colfax County, New Mexico Raton, NM- On May 12, 2025, the Colfax County Sheriff’s Office received credible information regarding illegal narcotics allegedly being introduced into the Vigil Maldonado Detention Center. Following a thorough investigation, it was determined that Detention Officer Amber Salazar was suspected of bringing an unknown substance into the facility.
As a result of the ongoing investigation, Deputies with the Colfax County Sheriff’s Office arrested Salazar on May 13, 2025, at her residence. The case remains under active investigation,
and further details will be released as they become available. The Colfax County Sheriff’s Office is committed to maintaining the safety and integrity of the Detention facility and takes all allegations involving contraband seriously.
