Domestic Dispute Standoff Resolved

A domestic violence incident Tuesday morning, September 27 in Raton turned into a standoff situation and triggered a shut-down of the East Cook Ave. and East Clark Ave. area near I-25 as officers from NM State Police, Colfax County Sheriffs and Raton City Police converged on a residence at 115 Yankee Ave.
Cassandra Martinez, 31, was arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon. Negotiators with the NM State Police Tactical Unit were called in to diffuse the situation and after several hours Martinez walked out of the residence and was arrested with no further incident. She was taken to MCMC to be evaluated and treated for a dog bite suffered from the NM State Police Canine unit. According to Raton Police Chief John Garcia, there were no injuries reported to Police and Martinez, who allegedly threatened a family member with a knife and then threatened to harm herself, could face other charges.
