I-25 Bridge Replacement Near Springer Set to Begin April 1, With Nighttime Closure/Detour

SPRINGER, N.M. – NMDOT is getting ready to replace a 53 year-old bridge which spans over I-25 at Exit 414 on the north end of Springer, with replacement set to begin Wednesday, April 1, 2026. The project will include reconstruction of the existing bridge 7299 along with improvements to ramp intersections and bridge approach and departure areas at a cost of  $12.3 million.

As part of the project, auxiliary lanes will be constructed for each of the four on- and off-ramps
connecting to and from Interstate 25. These improvements are designed to enhance traffic flow and
increase safety for motorists traveling through the interchange.

During construction, traffic heading south and exiting to Springer will be detoured to Exit 412 at the South Springer Interchange.

A full road closure will be in place on Interstate 25 at milepost 414 during the evening hours from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m., Monday through Friday. Traffic will be slowed and will use the existing on/off ramps. This closure is necessary for bridge demolition and will be lifted once demolition is complete.

Contractor for the project is AUI, Inc. with construction estimated to be completed in December, 2026.

The New Mexico Department of Transportation appreciates the patience of the traveling public and
looks forward to delivering another successful infrastructure improvement project in northeastern
New Mexico.
