As the Raton Board of Education begins the budget process with a special meeting before the regular meeting Thursday evening to present and publicly review the operating budget for the district.
In the principals’ reports it was noted that enrollment remains fairly steady across all three schools with Longfellow at 225, RIS at 248 and RHS at 325 with attendance rates holding at about 91% at both RIS and RHS.
Superintendent Kristi Medina noted in her report that the child find dates for the school will be March 30-31, at Longfellow School and a STEM event day at RIS on March 20, 2026. The Class of 2028 is doing a baked potato sale till March 27, 2026.
The district is working with all the IT Providers to determine needs and requirements for the IT infrastructure in the new school buildings and making sure it integrates with all the buildings including the gym.
Medina also noted that Pedagrew Surveyors will be on site for the final survey for the new campus during the spring break week coming up from March 23-27, 2026.
The audit report by Manning and Associates was not ready for the board so it was postponed for a later date.
Raton High senior Addison Medina was nominated for the New Mexico School Board Association Scholarship. The nomination will now go before the Association for final review.
Dustin Walton and Ryan Boone were appointed to the Finance Committee, with Board members Ted Kamp and Jason Phillips being appointed to the Audit Committee.
