In Loving Memory of Frances Colleen Bonomo Grogan

Frances Colleen Bonomo Grogan, 86, of Raton, NM, passed away peacefully on March 8, 2026, at Bee Hive Assisted Living.

Colleen was born September 28, 1939, to Reno Bonomo and Rena Cunico and was raised in Roy, NM. After her father’s early death, John Mahoney became her stepfather and raised Colleen and her siblings; she always respected and loved him as her own father. She graduated from Roy High School and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in business from New Mexico State University in Las Cruces.

Raised on a working ranch, Colleen developed a tireless work ethic and a spirited independence—she cared for milk cows and chickens, maintained farm equipment, and traded eggs, butter, and milk in town to help sustain the ranch. That same determination carried into her professional life: she worked in Albuquerque and Raton for Burrows Furniture and Western Hollow Metal, was part owner of Rocky Mountain Metal, and enjoyed a long career of more than 20 years with Title Services.

Colleen married Richard Wayne “Dick” Grogan and was blessed with one son, Michael Royce Grogan, who was the center and greatest joy of her life. Fiercely independent yet deeply compassionate, she loved travel—especially trips to Europe and chaperoning student tours—and she was an accomplished artist, with many of her works gracing her and Royce’s homes. Colleen often said Raton was the most beautiful place anywhere, a place she loved and called home.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Richard “Dick” Grogan; brother Lt. Colonel Reno Joe Bonomo; brother John Herbert Mahoney.

Colleen is survived by her son, Royce Grogan; her sister, Janet Willis of Cedar Crest, NM; sister-in-law June Mahoney of Roy, NM; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Colleen will be remembered for her strength, generosity, lively spirit, and the warmth she brought to family and friends. Further service details will be shared by the family. Condolences may be sent to Royce and family.
