Emma Cunja Carnevale
Emma went to be with Our Lord on January 31, 2026, at the age of 97. She was sixth of six children born to Antonia and Anton Cunja on February 27, 1928, in Sugarite, New Mexico.
She graduated from Raton High School. In Raton she worked as a teller at the First National Bank.
In 1957, she married Leonard (Plug) Carnevale at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Raton, New Mexico. They made their home in Trinidad, Colorado. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Trinidad and was a supporter of many charities.
Emma was a loving person whose generosity and compassion for others shined through her many acts of kindness. She could strike up a conversation with anyone and loved telling stories and spending time talking. Emma was well known for her homemade noodles and for biscotti cookies that she took to town bake sales and family gatherings. Words that have been used to describe Emma are: loving, generous, full of life, sweet, kind, and overall wonderful.
Proceeding her in death was her husband Leonard (Plug) Carnevale; parents Antonia and Anton Cunja; Brother Mario Cunja; and sisters Marcella (John) Perkovich, Velma (Aldo) Piacentini, Mary (Fletcher) King and Elizabeth (John) Ferraro.
She is survived by her children Debbie (Mike) Wilde, Glenwood Springs, CO; Elaine Carnevale, Loveland, CO; Mary Jean Carnevale, Glenwood Springs, CO; and Anthony Carnevale (Pattiannne Sheehan), Las Vegas, NV; grandsons Taylor (Molly) Wilde and Carson (Anastasia) Wilde; 3 great grandchildren; brother-in-law Carl Carnevale; sister-in-law Barbara Barbee; and numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
There will be a graveside service on March 6 at 1 p.m. at Trinidad Catholic Cemetery in Trinidad Colorado.
Active pallbearers are Danny Carnevale, Michael Machone, Stephen Barbee, Joe Jackson, Don Alfonso, and Steve Torres. Honorary pallbearers are Jerry King, Larry Perkovich, Charlie Mackey, Jim Coursey, Tom Torres, and Buddy Curro.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that you honor Emma with a donation to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or your favorite charity.
