In Loving Memory of Julian Gutierrez

Julian Gutierrez, age 73, died on Sunday January 4, 2025, in Amarillo Texas.

Rosary will be recited at 9:30 AM on Thursday, January 8, 2026, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Clayton and Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00 AM with Fr. Joji Konkala as celebrant. Burial will follow in the Clayton Memorial Cemetery followed by a Memorial Service at Noon at the Clayton Air Park. Arrangements are under the direction of Hass Funeral Directors of Clayton, New Mexico.

Julian Gutierrez was born on November 15, 1952, in Clayton, New Mexico to Celedon Edwardo Gutierrez and Eloyda Eulalie (Gonzales) Gutierrez. He graduated from Clayton High School in 1971 and started college at NMHU in Las Vegas where he played basketball. Julian married Colleen (Boyd) Gutierrez on August 17, 1974, in Clayton, New Mexico. He finished his education as OPSU earning a Bachelors Degree. Julian worked for Clayton Schools for many years teaching History, Spanish and Physical Education and he also coached for many years. Together with Colleen they owned and operated the Frosty Bar, the Dairy Freeze and later the Burrito Wagon for many years. Julian loved to play golf and was very involved in the Clayton Golf Club and all of their tournaments. Julian was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Clayton. Julian was preceded in death by his mother; Eloyda Gutierrez on December 1, 1987, father Celedon Gutierrez on December 5, 1999, a sister Bertha Torres on March 1, 2013, a nephew John Torres and a niece Lynn Lugowski, his mother-in-law and father-in-law E. B. Boyd, Jr. and Frances Parker Boyd, his brother-in-law and sisters-in-law Clinton Boyd, Charlene Boyd Spivey, Hicks Spivey and Twila Boyd and by Betty Fogarty.

SURVIVORS:

WIFE: Colleen Gutierrez of Clayton, New Mexico.

5 CHILDREN: Dusty Gutierrez and his wife Mikka of Seminole, Texas, Nicole Shores and her husband Bryan of Midland, Texas, Bo Gutierrez and his wife Kayla of Amarillo, Texas, John David Gutierrez and his wife Krystal of Clovis, New Mexico and Samantha Stotts and her husband Bill of Andrews, Texas.

17 GRANDCHILDREN: Mikalee McNabb and her husband Colin, Nicolas Shores and his wife Mattie, Dillon Gutierrez, Samantha Gutierrez, Javen Gutierrez, Chase Shores and his fiancé Sydney Leavitt, Anastasia Gutierrez, Mario Gutierrez, Lance Gutierrez, Sean Gutierrez, Asher Goolsbey, Cory Goolsbey, Cj Gutierrez, Ethan Gutierrez, Luke Gutierrez, Aeson Stotts and Aizlee Stotts.

1 GREAT-GRANDCHILD: Emilio Gutierrez.

4 SISTERS: Connie Vital and her husband Antonio and Terri Sanchez and her husband Tom all of Clayton, New Mexico, Helen Cimini and her husband Tony of Fredericksburg, Virginia and Victoria Trujillo and her husband Gregory of Boise City, Oklahoma.

1 BROTHER: Gilbert Gutierrez and his wife Prescilla of Clayton, New Mexico.

2 BROTHERS-IN-LAW: Ron Boyd and Terry Boyd both of Turpin, Oklahoma.

And numerous nieces and nephews.
