It Took Five For Raton to Topple the Lady Lions from Santa Rosa Saturday

It took the Lady Tigers (4-0) five games to best the Santa Rosa Lady Lions (3-1)  in a Class 2A District six matchup in Tiger Gym Saturday afternoon October 18, 2025.

The lady Tigers came into the match with an overall record of 13-3 and a 3-0 district six record while the Lady Lions sported a 7-9 overall record against a 2-1 district record. The two teams came into the match tied for first place and Saturday’s win left Raton in first place in District 6 followed by Santa Rosa, Pecos, Clayton, Tucumcari and Estancia, a position Raton has not been in for a long time.

The JV girls came out on the court and let a 4-1 lead go for a tie at four. The girls buckled down and kept it close with a tie game six time from 11 to 17 before rolling on to a 25-20 win. Game two went the other way with Santa Rosa pulling out ahead after a tie game at four and moving on to a 25-17 win. In the tie breaker Santa Rosa dominated the game pulling out to a 7-2 score before moving on for the win.

As the varsity girls took the floor it looked like Raton would dominate the match as they moved to a lead and never looked back. In game one Ariana Perez and team scored seven straight 17-8 score then Analiah Lucero and the Lady Lions added four of their own for a 17-12 score.

Game two saw the Lady Tigers once again put the serves over the net as Paige Lemons went 5 straight followed by Jennifer Mattorano adding four. Santa Rosa’s Analiah Lucero added five points to the Lady Lion side of the scoreboard and Addison Medina and team added another four and pushed the Lady Tigers over the line with the win.

Game three took a turn to the other side as Santa Rosa took the lead after a tie at 12. The Lady Tigers managed to keep things close and ended game three in the loss column. Game four saw a real tight game with ties at 7 and up to 17. Tie scores once again followed at 22, 23, and 24. The Lady Lions managed to make key blocks at the net for the win.

In the tie breaker game it was close with tie scores up to six, where Raton managed to pull ahead and take it to the win by four.
