Long-time Raton resident, Antonio “Tony” Pesavento, quietly passed away at his home on July 27, 2025. He was born in Van Houten, New Mexico, to Christina Rodighiero and Antonio Pesavento. He was the youngest of six children. Older half-brothers, Ernesto Mazar and Emilio “Toofy” Mazar, and brother Dominic Pesavento and sisters Mary Sallese and Annie Pesavento preceded him in death. He is survived by two nieces, Christine Leiker and Nancy Puksta, and their children. Memories of this loving, close-knit family stand as an example of the importance of respectful love and tolerance between siblings and their devotion to beloved parents.
Born on July 30, 1937, Tony worked hard on the family farm in Maxwell, NM, graduated from high school, and pursued a career in Pharmacy at UNM in Albuquerque, NM. While at college, he was a proud ROTC member and joined the Army National Guard. Like many first-generation Italians, he kept true to his patriotic ideals of country throughout his life. After graduation, he returned to Raton, opened Tony’s Pharmacy on S 2nd Street, and later opened Cimarron Drug in Cimarron, NM.
Along with being a trusted Pharmacist, Tony took great joy in playing the accordion for family and friends. It was a talent learned as a boy and continued into adulthood. Tony took an interest in civic duty as the Mayor of Raton in the 1970s. He worked diligently to secure a long-term water supply for the city and funding for the MCMC hospital. In his later years, he served as Chief Pharmacist at Miner’s Hospital until retirement.
He loved the people of Raton and Colfax County and was a friend to all he met. We will miss you, Tony.
Rest in Peace.
Recitation of the Most Holy Rosary will be recited on Friday, October 24, 2025, at 11:00 am at St. Joseph’s-St. Patrick Catholic Church, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30, with Father Bill Woytavich as the Celebrant. Inurnment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

Tony was a high school student when I was in third grade and we moved
to Maxwell. I so enjoyed having a family friend who was so “cool”. The Pesavento
family was a good one and I have fond memories of visiting them.
To Tony’s family I send my heartfelt sympathy.
