A steady, light drizzle and cool, fall-like temperatures didn’t slow down or cool down the red-hot Santa Fe St. Michael’s football team as the Horsemen galloped to their sixth straight big win on Saturday, September 27th.
This time the Raton Tigers were the victims of the juggernaut as the home team offense scored on their first two possessions and then special teams recovered a fumble and blocked a punt and gave the offense two short field positions and had scored 28 points before the first quarter ended. Santa Fe continued to keep their foot on the gas and pulled away for a 54 – 0 win. The win meant the third shutout of season for the Santa Fe defense and the point differential moved to an impressive 258 – 36 against opponents.
Raton went into the game at less than full strength with some injury issues as three starters, including Sr lineman Santiago Castillo, Sr receiver Elijah Kenny and leading rusher Cael Walton were all standing on the sidelines.
Santa Fe got two rushing TDs from Isaiah Dominguez and Brayden Hollis and QB Kamal Smith found Ryan Hunt for a 24 yard TD reception and then used his own legs for a 58 yard TD run to end the game at :33 left in the 3rd.
Raton will take their 2-3 record back home and will start their district games with a Friday night date on October 3 in the Jungle with Legacy Academy coming in for a 7 pm kickoff.
KRTN will air the game on 93.9 FM and the video stream will be carried on KRTN Facebook.
