Raton hosted the Lady Red Devils Saturday afternoon September 29, in Tiger Gym for a non-district volleyball match where the Lady Tiger took the series in three games.
The 7th grade teams took the court first at noon with Springer winning both games of the match.
the Varsity took the court next where the Lady Red Devils took the lead and moved out to a 10-5 score. The Lady Tigers found their spark and tied the game at 12. Jennifer Mattorano was at the service line and with the help of her team scored nine points to take the lead and 16-13. Raton maintained the lead and ended the first game of the match tied a 25-20 score.
Game two of the afternoon saw one of the closer games of the season for Raton as both teams kept it tight tying the game several times. The last tie score was at 21 then Raton scored two and held that lead for the win 25-21.
Game three started to spread out after a 3-3 tie. Ratontook the lead and Mezzy Faneli and team added five points to put Raton up 12-5. Raton pulled out to a 18-10 lead and then allowed the Lady Red Devils to claw their way back to a 20-17 score. Raton picked up the defense and ended the game with a 25-19 score for the match.
