Bob Gott was born in Raton New Mexico on November 8th 1946. Bob was the youngest son of Frank and Mildred Gott who have preceded him in death. Bob was reunited with his wife Vera and two sons Steven and Paul on January 10th, 2025. Bob and Vera were childhood sweethearts meeting at the tender age of six and finally were married on August 21st, 1971.
Bob was raised with the strongest of work ethics by those in his immediate family. Bob was heavily involved with the day to day operations of Milly’s Country Market, a small grocery store and butcher shop owned by his parents. Many days after school, Bob spent his time working the cash register of the store and taking care of various tasks at a young age. Bob was blessed with an incredibly strong mechanical inclination. He was rebuilding motorcycle engines at the age of five and thoroughly enjoyed working on anything with wheels. He spent summers working on transporting ice to the La Mesa Park Horse Racing Track and winters using his motorcycle to tow his friends to the top of the hill used for sledding. Bob’s other hobbies included playing football, baseball and hunting.
After graduating from High School and a brief stint at Trinidad Community College, Bob enlisted in the United States Navy and entered the Vietnam War. While in the Navy, Bob’s rate and rank was as an E-5 machinist’s mate. He completed two tours within an active war zone first on the USS Firedrake and the second aboard the USS Jason. It was here where Bob often fondly remembered the time of significant personal and professional growth.
After concluding his military service, Bob and Vera relocated to San Diego California. He and Vera brought four sons into the world. Duane, John, Steven and Paul. Bob began his private sector career at the naval shipyards as a pipefitter. He then transitioned to what would become his most significant body of work by entering the trades as a HVAC Project Manager. Bob spent the next 30 years designing, planning and building large HVAC systems for hospitals, schools and other organizations.
In 2006, his wife Vera was diagnosed with cancer. It was at this point that Bob shifted his focus from work to spend time taking care of her. In 2008 and 2010, Bob and Vera welcomed their grandsons Shane and Justin to the family. While Vera passed away in 2013, Bob was present for the marriage of John and Stacy Gott in 2015. Bob is survived by his two sons, Duane and John, grandsons Shane and Justin, daughter in laws Tracey and Stacey, his two older brothers Dick and Kenney Gott as well as a host of loving nieces and nephews.
Bob was laid to rest at the Fairmount Cemetery on June 20th, 2025.
