The Lady Tigers had to travel down to Estancia for a play in game against the Mesilla Valley Christian School to begin the first round of state tourney play in Class A/2A Softball state tourney play.
The Lady Tigers took the game in six with a 13-4 win over the Lady SonBlazers. During the game Brooklyn Marquez had the heavy bat with two, two run home runs in the game. Haydyn Middlebrook pitched the game with seven strikeouts, eight walks and two batters hit by balls. Raton batters also put the ball in play 19 times against Lady SonBlazer pitcher Maren Fiske. who added two strikeouts and four batters hit by balls for the walks.
The Lady Tigers then took on the #1 seed Estancia Lady Bears who toppled the Lady Tigers 8-6 to move on to the winners bracket in the state softball playoffs. Raton will move into the loser bracket and play Eunice, May 14 with the time yet to be scheduled.
In the Estancia game Raton’s Haydyn Middlebrook was in the pitcher’s circle and had seven strikeouts with seven hits and four walks and two hit by pitch batters. The Lady Tigers put four balls in play with eight walks and five batters struck out and one hit by ball.
