SUMMARY:Magician Kicks Off Summer Reading Program
DESCRIPTION:Arthur Johnson Memorial Library in Raton:\n  \nOur summer reading program will start on Wednesday\, June 17\, 2015 at 10 am\, and continues for the rest of the summer on Wednesdays at the same time until July 29\, 2015 when we will hold are final summer story hour.  This years theme is “Every Hero Has a Story”.  The program is geared toward children from birth through 4th grade but we do at times have older kids that like to participate and they are more than welcome to come.  We hand out reading logs and reward the children for reading.  Younger children can also receive rewards when they are read to by family members (parents\, grandparents\, aunts\, uncles\, sisters\, brothers\, cousins\, etc.) or care givers.  Come listen to stories\, do projects\, and read to earn library dollars to spend at our library store “The Fortress”. \n \nOn Wednesday\,  June 17\, 2015 at 10 am we will be having a Magician “The Incredible Mr. E and Kyle Groves” to perform for the children.  The children really enjoyed them last year and we hope for the same this year\n~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~.\n \nOn Friday\, June 19\, 2015 at 3 pm we will kick off our summer craft hour.  It will be every Friday at the same time with the last one being on July 31\, 2015.  This program is open to all children.  If the child is under 10 we request that a older sibling or parent attend to help with the project for that day.  We have  different projects weekly.\n \nWe are having our annual “Friends of the Library Book Sale” that will be held on Saturday\, June 27\, 2015\, from 10 am til 2 pm\, on the second floor of the library.  We have a variety of books that have been donated by our patrons that we are unable to use in our library due to shelf space.  We like to see these books find good homes and that is why we do this sale yearly.  Donations of books and time are always welcome to the friends and our library.\n \n

SUMMARY:Dinner & Music at R.W. Hampton's Clearview Ranch (Miami\, NM)
DESCRIPTION:Award-winning musician R.W. Hampton invites the public to his Clearview Ranch on June 26th and 27th for dinner and music: \n I’ll be singing right here on my own patio with The Haunted Windchimes & Max Gomez… Love their music and if you haven’t heard them at a festival you should definitely come check them out here at the ranch! This will be the fourth summer we’ve hosted our concert series here at the ranch & it’s always good food\, good times & great music! \nJune 26th: RW & Lisa Hampton host the first of their summer concerts series with The Haunted Windchimes. A well known & highly acclaimed regional act from Colorado\, the Haunted Windchimes are now touring nationally and have been featured on such shows as Garrison Keilor’s NPR Radio program A Prairie Home Companion. The Haunted Windchimes sound draws from traditional folk and American roots music. The songs have a vintage quality\, as if they might have been written yesterday or 75 years ago. Grounded in honeyed harmonies and spirited pickin’\, it lies in a nowhere land between distinct styles: It’s not quite bluegrass or blues or country. \nJune 27th:  RW & Lisa Hampton will host an evening of music and delicious Northern NM dining on their private patio with Max Gomez. The son of an artisanal furniture craftsman\, Gomez grew up watching his father\, learning the tools of the trade while simultaneously learning his way around the frets of his guitar. The workmanlike quality of his songwriting carries over from his days spent in the woodshed through an economy of words\, phrase and narrative. Having honed his chops on the blues\, Max turned his interest to traditional American folk music; “I’m influenced by the old stuff\,” Max admits. \nYou can get your tickets on his website store or by calling or emailing the office. (dinner tickets are limited). 575-483-0042 or rwhampton@rwhampton.com

SUMMARY:Music from the Ranch and Open Range- with Steve Cormier
DESCRIPTION:“Music From the Ranch and the Open Range”\, a Chautauqua Presentation\, takes place June 27th from 6 pm-8 pm. \nCowboy music has evolved from the open range and ranch employees who worked and rode after cattle during the late 19th and early to mid 20th century. These include songs written by ranch hands about horses\, cattle and lost love. Others add death and the devil to the story. But all have in common the expression of what ranch and farm work was like during this time. Steve Cormier performs these and also songs he has written\, reflecting his years as a ranch and farm hand. \nA Chuckwagon BBQ meal is available for purchase for $10 a plate. Food available at 5pm. \n \nThis event is presented with the Assistance of the New Mexico Endowment for the Humanities. There is no charge for this event. \nThe Cleveland Roller Mill Museum is located 2 miles nw of Mora\, NM off Highway 518 near mile marker 31. See sign on the Road. \nFor more information please call 575.387.2645. http://www.clevelandrollermillmuseum.org   \n\n\n\n\n  \n  \n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n  \n\n\n\n \n\n  \n\n\n\n\n  \n\n \n\n\n \n\n  \n  \n  \n
