SUMMARY:106th Wagon Mound Bean Day Celebration
DESCRIPTION:The 106th Wagon Mound Bean Day Celebration is Friday through Monday\, September 2nd – 5th in Wagon Mound\, New Mexico. Labor Day Monday events include a parade\, street events\, free BBQ\, live music in the park\, BINGO and Open Rodeo.\n \nMore information available at www.beanday100.com  Contact: Luis (575-447-1597) or Darlene (575-668-2345) \nAs described on the Bean Day website (http://beanday100.com):   \nThe historic event of Bean Day began in 1909 when Higinio Gonzalez and his crew cooked up a pot of beans in wash boilers behind the school house for what was then called the “Mora County Farmers Harvest Jubilee”. The following year\, the name “Bean Day” was born to honor the crop that was once staple of the local farming economy. In those days\, Wagon Mound was a major center for the production of pinto beans. . . Although few pinto beans are grown in the area these days\, the tradition continues as an enjoyable family oriented celebration. \nJust 40 miles north of Las Vegas or 25 miles south of Springer\, Wagon Mound is located in Northeastern New Mexico — on I-25 at the intersection of State Highway 120 (387 exit). \n\nWagon Mound is named for a lone butte along the Santa Fe Trail\nthat some travelers thought looked like a wagon pulled by a team of horses.\nThe town once had up to 1\,500 residents\, but is now home to about 300.

SUMMARY:Dawson Mine Reunion Weekend
DESCRIPTION:The Dawson Reunion Weekend (held every other year) will be during Labor Day Weekend this year on Saturday and Sunday\, September 3rd & 4th.\n  \nIn 2014\, over 600 people attended the Reunion Weekend – to remember and learn about the good times and difficult times at the Dawson Mining Community.\n  \nVolunteers are always sought to help with the Dawson Reunion and to help maintain the Dawson Cemetery.\n  \nThe town of Dawson is now largely gone\, with only a few buildings remaining. The only significant remaining landmark in Dawson is the cemetery\, which is on the National Register of Historic Places. The cemetery is filled with iron crosses painted white marking the graves of many miners who died in the mines. Other markers show the burial locations of other residents of Dawson. \n  \nDawson can be reached by proceeding approximately 12 miles east of Cimarron\, on HWY 64\, then turning north at the Dawson sign\, for another 5 miles to the site of the Dawson Cemetery. \n(Photo credit:  Jim Veltri)

SUMMARY:106th Wagon Mound Bean Day Celebration
DESCRIPTION:The 106th Wagon Mound Bean Day Celebration is Friday through Monday\, September 2nd – 5th in Wagon Mound\, New Mexico. Labor Day Monday events include a parade\, street events\, free BBQ\, live music in the park\, BINGO and Open Rodeo.\n \n \nMore information available at www.beanday100.com  Contact: Luis (575-447-1597) or Darlene (575-668-2345) \n  \nAs described on the Bean Day website (http://beanday100.com):   \nThe historic event of Bean Day began in 1909 when Higinio Gonzalez and his crew cooked up a pot of beans in wash boilers behind the school house for what was then called the “Mora County Farmers Harvest Jubilee”. \n  \n  \nJust 40 miles north of Las Vegas or 25 miles south of Springer\, Wagon Mound is located in Northeastern New Mexico — on I-25 at the intersection of State Highway 120 (387 exit). \n  \n\nWagon Mound is named for a lone butte along the Santa Fe Trail\nthat some travelers thought looked like a wagon pulled by a team of horses.\nThe town once had up to 1\,500 residents\, but is now home to about 300.
