DESCRIPTION:The Center for American Values located in Pueblo\, Colorado will bring its Mobile Learning Lab to Raton from October 19th to October 30th. On Monday\, October 19th\, the Center will host a reception at 5:00 pm in the Mobile Learning Lab (parked at Russell Marcy Academy) for school administrators\, educators\, and community members. The public will get a preview of the programs that will be offered to local students and to learn more about the Center. \nThe Mobile Learning Lab will be located at Russell Marcy Academy Campus (formerly Raton Middle School) from October 19th to October 23rd and then will re-locate to Raton High School beginning October 26th to October 30th. The Center will deliver lessons to 675 third through 12th grade students in the Raton School District.  \nJoe “Joey” Aldaz\, Executive Director and 1979 Raton High School graduate commented\, “It’s an honor and privilege to be in the position to give back to my hometown which gave so much to me by offering free character education to the youth of Raton.”  \nThe Center for American Values deployed its Mobile Learning Lab in the summer of 2014 allowing the center to bring its Honor\, Integrity\, and Patriotism educational programs to communities throughout the nation. The Mobile Learning Lab delivers character education and leadership development programs in a 600 square foot climate-controlled classroom with a seating capacity of up to 50 students. The curriculum includes Remember 9/11\, Anti-Bullying\, Teamwork and Team Building the Medal of Honor\, and Code of the West.

Sponsored by GrowRaton!/Community & Economic Development\, Raton Kiwanis Club\, Raton Rotary Club\, First United Methodist Church of Raton and First Presbyterian Church of Raton. \nPer US Housing Census facts\, over 70% of the housing stock in Raton was constructed before the 1985 Energy Conservation Codes were implemented in New Mexico. Since their implementation\, energy consumption of homes built to code levels have been reduced by 32%.  \nHow can we improve our older homes to reduce their energy consumption to be closer to existing code levels or possibly exceed them? Can we improve our housing stock so new employers and employees that move into the area have better choices?   \n

SUMMARY:Fiction Writer’s Workshop
DESCRIPTION:The Arthur Johnson Memorial Library in Raton will host an all-day Fiction Writer’s Workshop conducted by author Steven Havill on Saturday October 24\, 2015.  The hours will be from 9 am-Noon  and 1 pm-4 pm. \nMr. Havill\, a former Raton resident\, is the author of the nationally known “Posadas County Series” set in southern New Mexico.  It follows the Sherriff’s department of Posadas County and the lives of favorite characters Bill Gastner and Estelle Reyes. \nWhen Mr. Havill lived in Raton\, he conducted fiction writers workshops that resulted in a least five local writers who published novels. So bring your questions\, bring a sample of your work\, and come prepared to enjoy and learn from a successful author and excellent teacher. \nRefreshments will be served.

Their work has provided fundamental knowledge of how a living cell functions and is\, for instance\, used for the development of new cancer treatments. \nGhostbusters is a 1984 American supernatural comedy film\,[2][3] directed and produced by Ivan Reitman and written by Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis. The film stars Bill Murray\, Aykroyd\, and Ramis as three eccentric parapsychologists in New York City who start a ghost-catching business.
