SUMMARY:105th Wagon Mound Bean Day Celebration
DESCRIPTION:The 105th Wagon Mound Bean Day Celebration is Friday through Monday\, September 4th – 7th in Wagon Mound\, New Mexico. The theme for 2015\, “Rails to Trails”\, celebrates the old indigenous trails and the railroad era. \n\n\nAs described on the Bean Day website (http://beanday100.com):  The historic event of Bean Day began in 1909 when Higinio Gonzalez and his crew cooked up a pot of beans in wash boilers behind the school house for what was then called the “Mora County Farmers Harvest Jubilee”. The following year\, the name “Bean Day” was born to honor the crop that was once staple of the local farming economy. In those days\, Wagon Mound was a major center for the production of pinto beans. . . Although few pinto beans are grown in the area these days\, the tradition continues as an enjoyable family oriented celebration. \nMore information available at www.beanday100.com  Contact: Luis (575-447-1597) or Darlene (575-668-2345) \nJust 40 miles north of Las Vegas or 25 miles south of Springer\, Wagon Mound is located in Northeastern New Mexico — on I-25 at the intersection of State Highway 120 (387 exit).  \nWagon Mound is named for a lone butte along the Santa Fe Trail that some travelers thought looked like a wagon pulled by a team of horses. The town once had up to 1\,500 residents\, but is now home to about 300. \n\n \n\n\n\n\nEVENT\n\n\n\n\nTIME\n\n\n\n\nLOCATION\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFriday – September 4th\n\n\n\n\n\nBean Cleaning Party\n\n\n6pm\n\n\nFirehouse\n\n\n\n\nStreet Dance\n\n\n7pm\n\n\nFirehouse\n\n\n\n\n\nSaturday – September 5th\n\n\n\n\n\nSoftball Tournament\n\n\n7am\n\n\nWMPS Baseball Field\n\n\n\n\nVeterans Memorial Service\n\n\n9am\n\n\nVeterans Memorial Park\n\n\n\n\nCar Show\n\n\n9am\n\n\nWagon Mound\n\n\n\n\nMusic in the Park\n\n\n11am – 7pm\n\n\nPark\n\n\n\n\nRodeo\n\n\n2pm\n\n\nRodeo Grounds\n\n\n\n\nDance\n\n\n9pm\n\n\nWMHS Old Gymnasium\n\n\n\n\n\nSunday – September 6th\n\n\n\n\n\nSoftball Tournament\n\n\n7am\n\n\nWMPS Baseball Field\n\n\n\n\nBreakfast\n\n\n8am\n\n\nFirehouse\n\n\n\n\nAmateur Horseshoe Tournament\n\n\n10am\n\n\nCorner of Railroad Ave. & Nolan St.\n\n\n\n\nMud Bog Races\n\n\n11am\n\n\nS.
