Rocky Mountain Physical Therapy

By Susan Ward, KRTN-

Pioneer Natural Resources presents KRTN’s Super Star of Business for October, Rocky Mountain Physical Therapy.

In observance of National Physical Therapy Month, Ted Kamp was our guest at KRTN on October 29, 2015.

Ted Kamp, DPT and his wife Traci Kamp, DPT are the owners of Rocky Mountain Physical Therapy. RMPT is a rehabilitation center located in Raton, NM. Their physical therapy team provides outpatient therapy services to patients of all ages and abilities.

ted kamp 1Ted Kamp spoke of the impressive “collection of talent” that the staff possesses at Rocky Mountain Physical Therapy. RMPT employs three fully-credentialed specialty staff members and seven other talented personnel.

Ted shared that it is “very rewarding to help patients” and see their results. He expressed his gratitude for the relationships that they have formed in the community. Ted stated, “It’s a real blessing to work with patients who are going to have the opportunity to work through issues and better themselves. We cry and rejoice with our patients.”

KRTN Sales Manager, Alan Kenny, told listeners that recently he “had the opportunity to use some of the finest equipment” at Rocky Mountain Physical Therapy and that already he has seen positive changes with mobility. Alan emphasized the professionalism and courtesy of the staff. Ted agreed that Rocky Mountain Physical Therapy has some of the “finest staff you can find – with skills to work with all different groups of people.”

Bill Donati, Owner and General Manager of KRTN, asked Ted Kamp about how patients get referred to Rocky Mountain Physical Therapy. Ted explained that services are covered by most insurance policies and are driven by a referral from a physician.

Bruno’s Pizza and Wings

By Susan Ward, KRTN

Pioneer Natural Resources presents KRTN’s Super Star of Business for September:  Bruno’s Pizza and Wings.

Co-owner of Bruno’s Pizza and Wings, Mandy Hess, was our guest at KRTN on September 3, 2015.

Located at 244 South First Street in downtown Raton, Bruno’s Pizza and Wings serves up some of the best homemade pizza, chicken wings and salads in the area. Customers are already claiming their favorites:  The New Mexican Pizza, Green Chile Chicken Pizza, Cranberry Chipotle Wings and Spinach Salad.

Mandy Hess, co-owner of Bruno's Pizza and Wings, visits KRTN.

Owners Aaron Ley and Mandy Hess took some time to decide and start their own business in Raton. Mandy has been a part-time social worker, a counselor and a busy mom to her young children. Her partner, Aaron Ley, always made pizzas at home and “is really good at it.” Aaron had been working in the oilfield business in North Dakota, but is now with their family on a daily basis.

Aaron and Mandy opened Bruno’s Pizza and Wings in July 2015 with about 20 employees. KRTN’s Billy D noted, “You have an even bigger family now!” Billy D added, “It’s not easy to own your own business. But eating is great therapy. We all need to eat and break bread… And this is America! I’m loving this!”

The symbol of a bear (bruin, “Bruno”) makes a lot of sense for the town and tourists of Raton! Bruno’s displays a sports motif that is a welcomed addition to Historic First Street. Large-screen TVs showing sporting events can entertain guests while they anticipate their main course.

Convenient options for customers include Call-In/Take-Out Service (anytime) and Pizza-By-The-Slice (during lunch). Guests will appreciate that Bruno’s Pizza and Wings is open six days per week; they are only closed on Tuesdays.

brunos pizzaAaron Ley prepares homemade pizza dough everyday and assures the quality and taste of each pizza that leaves Bruno’s busy kitchen. Mandy Hess told Billy D that Bruno’s “adds a depth of flavor to each pizza with a dusting of the House Cheese Blend of Asiago, Provolone and Romano cheeses.” As KRTN Sales Manager, Alan Kenny, commented, “One cannot function without cheese!” Bruno’s offers twelve different pizzas in 12″ and 16″ sizes and encourages customers to “Create Your Own.” Bruno’s can even prepare gluten-free pizzas as needed.

Bruno’s brings Buffalo Chicken Wings and eight more flavors of tasty wings to Northeastern New Mexico. Customers can order baskets of ten (10) wings at a very reasonable price. Four different salads (in two sizes) are prepared to order and are a delicious beginning to your meal.

The official ribbon-cutting ceremony for Bruno’s Pizza and Wings was on Labor Day, September 7, 2015. KRTN welcomes Aaron, Mandy, their children and their “new family” of employees as September’s Super Stars of Business!

EJ Johnson, Financial Advisor with Edward Jones

Pioneer Natural Resources presents KRTN’s Super Star of Business for July:
EJ Johnson, Edward Jones Financial Advisor.

EJ Johnson, Financial Advisor with Edward Jones, and Billy D

EJ Johnson, Financial Advisor with Edward Jones, and Billy D

EJ Johnson, Edward Jones Financial Advisor in Raton, was our guest at KRTN on July 23, 2015.

EJ grew up on a ranch in Alamogordo, New Mexico, moved his family to Raton and set up his Edward Jones office at 700 South 2nd Street.

Financial Advisors
Edward Jones Investments believes that the best advice comes from someone who knows you – someone who will build a one-on-one relationship with you. You might see financial advisor EJ Johnson at Super Save, Tiger Stadium, your kid’s school or at other community events. And since most Edward Jones financial advisors live and work in the same communities as their clients, the company believes they can better understand your needs and help you achieve your financial goals.

Community Involvement
Not only are Edward Jones financial advisors part of their communities, they’re committed to making them better places. EJ Johnson told Billy D, “My family and I chose Raton. We live here, work here, shop here.” Additionally, EJ is an assistant coach with the Raton Tigers football program.

Professionally Dedicated
While these community-based values are important to Edward Jones, there’s a professional side that’s just as essential. Their financial advisors continuously build their financial knowledge. “We want to help make the world a better place,” says EJ. “We do that with investments.” Billy D and EJ discussed some of the almost-professional scams being attempted around our area – via emails and phone calls. “Investment opportunities are out there,” EJ told Billy D, “but we need to be wary” (of those scams, high risks, etc.). “If it sounds too good to be true,” . . .it is probably a scam.

If you have not had the opportunity to meet EJ Johnson, just call his Raton office at 575-445-2345. Becky (a friendly and most capable professional) will help you schedule a one-on-one appointment at your convenience. Let EJ guide you to the best opportunities out there. . . for you.

Royse’s Black Jack’s Saloon and Steakhouse

Pioneer Natural Resources presents KRTN’s Super Star of Business for June:  Royse’s Black Jack’s Saloon and Steakhouse.

photo 2 (43)Owners Jim and Marsha Royse, Chef Jessie Baca and Floor Manager/ Bartender Jeremy Oaks were our guests at KRTN on June 18, 2015. The KRTN Staff especially appreciated the savory samples from Black Jack’s new menu that the Royse crew brought to the station!

Located at 225 West Main in downtown Historic Trinidad, Royse’s Black Jack’s Saloon and Steakhouse offers some of the best seasoned and well-prepared 100% Black Angus steaks and brisket in the West.

Jim Royse, a longtime rancher from the Texas Panhandle, and his wife Marsha purchased the former Black Jack’s property in October 2014. They made some renovations and opened Royse’s Black Jack’s Saloon and Steakhouse in March 2015. The Western motif is a given expectation that will delight guests. For added local flair, Jim and Marsha invited area ranchers to put their brands into the walls of the restaurant.

The flavors that jump from the main dishes onto your taste buds are impressive, welcomed surprises! It is no surprise, however, that these savory dishes are prepared skillfully by Chef Jessie Baca. Chef Jessie studied and trained at Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts in Las Vegas, Nevada. So, now you know:  It’s ALL going to be good! Chef Jessie recommends the 24-ounce, hand-cut, mesquite-grilled Black Angus Porterhouse Steak.

If a taste of smooth suds is what you seek, visit bartender Jeremy Oaks in the downstairs saloon. In addition to a new bar menu, he will be running specials for Happy Hour from 4:30 pm – 6:30 pm. As a very willing transplant from Chicago, via Texas, Jeremy proclaims, “It’s so beautiful out here, you can’t help but smile.”

Members of KRTN staff are still smiling after sampling our new-found favorite Black Jack’s dishes and sides: Jim’s Choice Ribeye Steak, Beef Brisket, Grilled (thick) Pork Chop, Paula’s Hominy and Cowboy Cut Potatoes. We are very motivated to try Marsha’s specialty desserts:  Jack Bread Pudding, cobbler with ice cream, Towering Chocolate Cake and Luscious Lemon Cake.

The philosophy of Royse’s Black Jack’s Saloon and Steakhouse is “Eat! Drink! Have a good time!” And, Marsha guarantees that they “will make sure you’re happy before you leave.”

Gretchen Sporleder Orr, Publisher and Editor of Huerfano World Journal

Gretchen Sporleder Orr, publisher and editor of Huerfano World Journal, was our guest at the KRTN studios on February 5, 2015 for our “Super Stars of Business”.

Huerfano World can trace its origins to the first issue of the Huerfano Cactus which was published in 1883. The newspaper went through several changes over the next 130 years and eventually became the Huerfano World Journal.

After perusing the February 5, 2015 edition of Gretchen’s stellar newspaper, the KRTN staff became even more enthusiastic about the new media partnership of KRTN Radio and Huerfano World. The Walsenburg-based newspaper is preparing to launch its partnership with KRTN Radio to “extend the news and marketing reach to all three counties of Huerfano, Las Animas and Colfax.”

Billy Donati, KRTN Owner/General Manager with Gretchen Sporleder Orr, Publisher/Editor of Huerfano World Journal

Bill Donati, KRTN Owner/General Manager with Gretchen Sporleder Orr, Publisher/Editor of Huerfano World Journal

Bill Donati, Owner and General Manager of KRTN, expressed his optimism in launching the media collaboration of radio and print, “There is always strength in numbers. And sharing media information is a good sign of bringing our areas together culturally and businesswise.” Bill and Gretchen agreed that local newspapers and radio stations build communities and senses of region identity. KRTN and Huerfano World  are ready to launch a shared promotion of the “World Class” regions of Northeastern New Mexico and Southeastern Colorado.

Gretchen added, “Huerfano World is very excited about expanding our readership and marketing base through our media association with KRTN Radio. Both our readership and local area businesses will now have a stronger platform to market their services.”

Alan Kenny, Assistant Manager/Sales Manager of KRTN, has agreed to assist Huerfano World in the launch of operations in both Las Animas and Colfax Counties. Alan is well-known in Colorado for his newspaper expertise in growing businesses to their most profitable potential.

A launch date will be announced in the near future, and it is hoped that all will realize the importance of this media association,  as far as an expansion of services.

After the program aired and before the day was over, we had heard from several Raton businesses that Gretchen had already visited them. The local business owners echoed the sentiments of the KRTN staff: Gretchen is an impressive, energetic and knowledgeable businesswoman.
