Kricket Chirpio—Kwality Kontrol     24/7  (Seasonal)

Hello! I am honored! If you are here you’ve come to find out more about life here at 93.9 KRTN, Enchanted Air radio from my point of view. Thank you! As I said, before you clicked here, my name is Kricket Chirpio.

I was hatched and raised under a milk carton next to a bridge. I remember waiting for that milk carton to decompose and wondering, “Is this all I am ever going to do with my thorax”? I truly wanted something better before the birds got me. Never been much of a martyr either. With 200 siblings to compete with… I took a leap! (well I did!) Yup, I ventured afar to explore the great unknown…actually everything was like that, afar and unknown… My antennae led me to where I now live at KRTN. Why? Are you kidding? Because the door was open. And I’m fast. And that’s my bio. It’s pretty short, but hey, I’m real small.

The real story is in the present… you learn that here at KRTN. So why am I still here? Are you kidding? This place is great! I love it here! It’s a crickitopia, or maybe a chirpeteria… and it has lots of places to hide…I don’t have to pay for cable… and the view from down here is SWEET! (just don’t drink the coffee or you’ll be somewhere up there. Billy brews a Java that is jumping!)

I really can’t think of anywhere else I would rather be, which is obviously the reason I never left. I mean, c-mon, there is ALWAYS food here. People come by here all the time and give us food and lots of it! I can’t possibly eat enough for anyone to notice let alone complain about it. What you don’t know is definitely HILARIOUS to Kricket.

The people here are just awesome, funny accident prone… OH YES!!!…..but that’s only part of their awesomeness. They really care. The D.J.’s even talk to me sometimes when they‘re live. They’re not like, “Hey Kricket, why don’t you stick a lettuce leaf in it”! Not at all! They really make me feel like I’m part of a real family here at Enchanted Air. I can’t really understand what they’re saying most of the time, but the body language here is certainly entertaining. (refer back to “accident-prone awesomeness”) Plus they usually can’t see me laughing at them. It’s a win-win situation with a chirping ovation. To truly appreciate this, you have to know a little bit about each human here.

I’m gonna start with Sherri Martinez, she’s great! She’s our fantastic and VERY patient Office Manager & Receptionist. I don’t get too close to her anymore…for a VERY GOOD REASON. She is super nice, but I’m a bug, though pretty darn cute for a cricket, but that is not enough to keep her from taking a book to me if she spots me… or a shoe or whatever she has in hand at the moment. I relax when Sherri’s not here as you might imagine.

Billy D is like Grandfather Time to me. He’s ALWAYS here and always has been… I guess. I play a game with him and I hide his keys. Sometimes he tries to find me and we end up playing hide n seek with a marco/polo twist. But sometimes I just like to sit and chill with Billy D while I listen to his voice. He always leaves me enough room so I can sit with him, just in case I feel like being found again.

Big Mac is another awesome-awesome person here. First of all, he doesn’t smack me with the STICKY NOTES, SHERRY. Second, Big Mac can see himself in other people’s shoes with a realistic apprehension, which shows he cares even if he doesn’t understand… yet. That’s a rare thing these days. And when the “Big Mac” philosophy comes out in a conversation, you better hope you don’t have anything in your mandibles. You run a serious risk of breaking one of them off from the spontaneous explosion of laughter you weren’t ready for.

Christina is our newest addition to the KRTN family. She is always so nice. You can tell she gets into her expertise and works diligently at it while being modest about it. She doesn’t think I notice, but she is definitely another great asset to our enchanted productions… she even changed her name to KRisTiNa after she got here! She must really like KRTN, Enchanted Air radio!

JustDaniel, well… to put it this way, he talks—I laugh… and so do a whole lot of listeners… that’s just how it is! He likes to keep the audience on their toes and takes pride in keeping them in the moment. I like to keep JustDaniel on his toes! So, I play a game with him: I sing a chirpy tune… he stops to listen to me, and I stop! Ha, ha, ha, ha! I can’t stop laughing it’s so funny. I do have to keep hidden for sure… otherwise I might end up with no more chirp. Ever!

Jim Veltri is one you don’t see very often here; Jim is the tech engineer. For example, it’s a lot easier to fix a bicycle when someone isn’t riding it. But he doesn’t make very much noise and I can get my sleep….until Danny G shows up…

I ALWAYS know when Danny Griego has the air. Why? The phones ring so much! For a Sunday, he sure is popular. Like “big-time-celebrity” popular. I don’t really know what Spanish is, but I’m sure its not much different than English. You know I can’t really understand either one anyway. Canciones Mexicanas is great music and it’s all good to me. S-GOOD!

Now Alan, he’s a local hero. Used to be a firefighter. Right here in Raton. That makes him a hero in just about anyone’s book. Now he’s our Assistant Manager/Sales Manager. You gotta love him! Brings in the ads baby; gets people the best results for their money, no doubt. I tip my antennae, both of ‘em, to Alan Kenny. Sometimes I make up a little chirpetry and sing it for him… I keep hoping he’ll use it for a ring tone or something. C’mon Alan, make my day!

One more person I don’t see a lot is Marty Mayfield: He's easy to identify because the camera is always in front of his face... just kidding! But seriously, one of the camera crew around here... I almost ran into one of his photos thinking I was outside. Gotta look for the "sheen" before I run full bore. He also helps with outside info, if he happens to be in the area.

You can’t put a price on stuff like this. They make sure there is room for me here too. They acknowledge my existence-even though they rarely ever see me. That’s more than I ever had when I was out there in the grass. (Birds don’t count, ALAN.) They even gave me a place on the website and let me speak my piece, which you’re reading now! I feel like I could almost be one of THEM. Yeah, I can’t possibly think of a better place for me to be. Not even on vacation. I feel welcome here and I don’t HAVE to leave… so I stay. I love it here at KRTN.

That’s my chirp for now,

Kricket Chirpio
