City of Raton Fire Restrictions
 

Due to environmental issues such as drought, dry fuel loads and extremely escalating fire conditions, the following fire restrictions remain in effect for the City of Raton:

• Open burning will only be permitted with prior approval (Burn Permit). At this time no permits are being issued.
• Bonfires are prohibited. Recreational fires shall not be constructed within 25’ from a structure or any combustible material and no greater than 3’ wide and no higher than 2’ in height in an approved site.
• No person shall throw or place a lighted match, cigar, cigarette, matches, or other flaming or glowing substance or object on any surface or article where it can cause an unwanted or hazardous fire.
• Bar-B-Qs, charcoal briquettes bar-b-q’s and open-flame cooking devices shall be used in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions and shall not be used within 10 feet of a structure or combustible material. At this time, the use of charcoal briquettes in an approved device is permitted.
• Fireworks – Presently, Safe-N-Sane fireworks are permitted providing that they are not used within 100’ of any structure or combustible material. The use of; Aerial Spinners, Helicopters, Mines, Missile-Type Rockets, Roman Candles, Stick-type rockets, or any other aerial fireworks is forbidden. Forbidden fireworks will be seized and any person convicted of a violation may be fined up to $500.00 or imprisonment for up to 90 days or both.
• A fire department officer is authorized to order the extinguishment by the person responsible or the fire department, of any open burning that creates or adds to a hazardous or objectionable situation.

These restrictions are enforceable by law, and a violation of which carries penalties and provisions. These restrictions may be adapted to respond to changing fire conditions.

Trinidad History Museum - Camp Trinidad Field Trip: Saturday August 24th, Tour of the WWll German prisoner camp and excavations; Limited to 20 participants, registered in advance; Meet at the museum at 8:00 am to board vans which will transport you to the site. Wagon Mound Celebrates “Bean Days” 2013 Labor Day Weekend, August 30th - September 2nd: with the 1st Bean Days Car Show and continuing the exciting Mud Bog Races, and a return of The Van of Enchantment! Activities include three days of rodeo, a big parade, dances, kid’s games, free “open mike” musical performances in the park, and our traditional free Beans & Barbecue Lunch serving more than 1500 people. This year’s Grand Marshal is Mrs. Margarita Abeyta, and we dedicate our rodeo to the many volunteers of Bean Day. Our 2013 parade theme is: “The Santa Fe Trail.” Come and join the fun.
