In Loving Memory of Angie Brazil (Turpin)

Angie Brazil (Turpin), 85, passed away peacefully at her home in Cimarron (NM) on Dec. 30, 2016.

Angie was born April 12, 1931, in Cimarron. She was a 1950 Cimarron High School graduate.

Angie lived briefly in Tacoma, WA, and Albuquerque before returning to Cimarron in 1956 with two young sons, Eloy and Gino. She worked as a clerk in several of the town’s stores – including Jay’s Country Store, Rosso’s Supermarket and Brodhead’s Variety – in the 60’s and 70’s.
In 1972, she began caring for her mother, Cruzita, and in 1980 was also the primary caretaker for her father, Crisosto. Cruzita and Crisosto died in 1985.

Angie deeply appreciated the companionship of her many relatives and friends. Each visit spent with them – laughing, talking about the past or discussing family matters and world issues – was memorable.

brazilShe enjoyed baking and cooking, prepping many a meal on her Majestic wood stove in the old adobe house she grew up in. As much as she liked cooking, Angie loved a good plate from friends or local restaurants, especially dishes smothered with green or red chile. Angie was an avid reader, followed politics closely on tv and in the newspaper, and enjoyed watching an occasional soap opera.

Her most precious moments were those spent with her two sons, Eloy, her primary caretaker, and Gino. She loved and cherished them in the way that only a mother can love, and took great pride in their achievements. Motherhood was the core of her life.

Angie deeply loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; their visits brought joy and energy to her life.

Angie was well known and well loved in the community. She leaves behind a legacy of deep friendships and kindness to others. Her gentle spirit, good humor, compassion and warm smile touched the hearts of her many friends and relatives. Her life was a beautifully crafted poem.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved brothers Eloy and Rafael.

Angie is survived by her two sons, Eloy and wife Lucy of Cimarron; and Gino of Española; her grandchildren Isaac Brazil and wife Pearl of Santa Fe; Toni Pena and husband Albert of Roswell; Matthew Brazil and wife Jena of Albuquerque; Jamie Armijo and husband Matt of Albuquerque; and great grandchildren Gabriel and Lexi Pena; Bailey and Bryn Brazil; and Braelyn and Camden Brazil. Also, many special nieces and cousins and wonderful friends.

A rosary will be held on Jan. 27 at 6 pm at Immaculate Conception (IC) Church in Cimarron. On Sat. Jan. 28, 2017, a memorial Mass celebrating Angie’s life will begin at 11 am at the Sister Hildegard Parish Hall, Cimarron.
