In Loving Memory of Jaecke Hughes Daniel

Jaecke Hughes Daniel died Oct. 12, 2016 a little more than a month after marking her 88th birthday. She died peacefully in her sleep at Bellevue Manor in Bellevue, Wash.

Even though her health forced her to leave in recent years, her heart always remained in the simple, beautiful home she nurtured in Capulin, New Mexico. She will be missed by her family, including Helen Hughes, Art Hughes, James Hughes, Della Sage, Kelly Miller, Nathan Hughes, Lucinda Keers, Rita Frisk, Nita Baker, Steve Hughes, and Marianne Hughes.

hughes danielAlthough she enjoyed traveling and visiting her far-flung children, she seemed happiest tending her garden, walking the dusty roads of her tiny town or warming herself by the fire in the company of her friends. People were drawn to her wisdom, humor, and empathy.

Jaecke was born in Des Moines, NM and grew up in Grenville. She attended Highlands University in Las Vegas, NM. Her work took her to Alaska and Washington, D.C., among other places and then back home to New Mexico. After retiring from Des Moines schools, she filled her time with family, friends, gardening and travel. She enjoyed writing about her own history growing up in the heart of the Dustbowl and living through the Depression.

She is preceded in death by her husbands, Arthur Hughes and Harry Daniel, her daughter, Janice and her siblings Margie, Bill, and Virginia.

There will be a rosary starting at 9 a.m. Oct. 29 at Our Lady of Guadalupe in Des Moines followed by a eulogy. Funeral mass is at 10 a.m. There will also be a memorial reception at the Des Moines Senior Center after the mass.
