In Loving Memory of Steven T. Marquez

Steven T. Marquez, a lifelong resident of Raton, was called home to the Lord on October 15, 2016 at the age of 73.

 

Steve was born in Raton, NM on September 2, 1943 to Abenicio and Elenor Marquez.

 

Steve was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, son and brother. Family came first in Steve’s eyes. Steve’s greatest joy in life was his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Steve enjoyed sports, and horseracing. He loved kids and was always willing to help one when they were in need. He coached many kids in the community that have never forgotten him.
Steve retired from UMWA after 40 years in the coal mine.

 

Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Abenicio and Elenore Marquez, grandson Seth Anthony Arquello, sisters Mary Martinez, Emily Trujillo, Eurela Marquez, and Francis Marquez, brothers Tony Marquez and Victor Marquez.

 

He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years Linda Marquez, sons, Steve Marquez Jr. and wife Elaine (Smurf) of Raton, Jim Marquez and wife Valerie of Raton, and daughters Tami Marquez of Raton and Anna Marquez of Albuquerque. Five grandchildren, Crystal Arguello, Sheri Arquello, Brianna Marquez, Anthony Marquez and wife Dulce of Raton, and Teri Marquez. Five great grandchildren, Alexia, Reyna and Leticia Marquez, Destiny Wilson, and Lucia Marquez. He is survived by brothers George Marquez and wife Lily of Raton, Joe Marquez and wife Nancy of Raton, Gene Marquez and wife Gertrude of Ely Nevada, Ernie Marquez and wife Cindy of Carlsbad, NM, and James Marquez and wife Dolores of Raton. Sisters Cecilia (Tiny) Manfredi of Raton, Nancy Valdez of Raton and many more family members.

 

Pall bearers, Anthony Marquez, Jack Marquez, Rodney Montoya, Basilillo (Curly) Montoya, Isaac Fernandez, Anthony Ortiz. Honorary Pallbearers are his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Steve had many friends and was always making a friend wherever he went. He will be missed, bur never forgotten.

 

A viewing for Steve will take place Friday, October, 21 2016 at the Alderette-Pomeroy Funeral Home Chapel from 2pm to 4pm for friends. Recitation of The Most Holy Rosary will take place Saturday October 22, 2016 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Patrick’s/St. Joseph’s Catholic with Harry BCFF of Trinidad Colorado, followed by the Solemn Mass of the Resurrection at 10:30 am with Father Bill Woytavich as the Celebrant and Deacon Tom Alderette. Rite of Committal and inurnment will be at a later date. A reception will follow immediately after the mass at the Parish Hall.
