Tigers Turnover Victory to Lions

The Raton Tiger football team was on a roll.  Heading into Santa Rosa for their third straight road game, they were winners of four in a row, including their first District 5A victory the previous week over Clayton.  The Tigers played toe-to-toe for the first two and a half quarters  against the district foe on Friday night October 14th.  But, Raton’ self-destructed in the second half after pulling into a tie early in the third quarter, the Tiger offense turned the ball over on five of their next six possessions and the Lions took the gifts and converted into them into a  42-21 win.

Raton scored in the first quarter after a big return by Ismael Tafoya, and a short TD run for Jonathan Cabriales. Cabriales would score again in the second quarter on a Dustin Segura 55 yard pass to tie it up at 14. In the third quarter, Raton’s first possession was a steady march downfield as Segura would run it in from four yards out to tie it up at 21. They would be the final points scored by the Raton offense.  Then after a long 58 yard TD completion, Santa Rosa lead by seven.  The Tigers would suffer an interception on the next series and Santa Rosa would never look back, capitalizing on the many Raton miscues.

The Tigers record goes to 5-3 and next up for the is a home game in the jungle on Friday, October 21 as the Tigers will host Texico for the first meeting ever between the two teams.

Kickoff on October 21 is at 7 pm and you can listen to the game on KRTN-FM 93.9 or by going online to the krtnradio.com website. and streaming thru Network1Sports.
