In Loving Memory of Richard E. Jones

Richard E. Jones age 81, of Raton, passed away Tuesday September 13, 2016 in Raton.

jones-richHe was born August 31, 1935 in McIntire, IA, the son of Frank F. and Gudrun (Pedersen) Jones. Richard was a Veteran of the United State Marine Corp and a member of the NRA, ATA, AARP, American Legion, the Whittington Center and the Whittington Center Founders Club. He was a retired College Professor and a member of the Baptist Church.

Richard is survived by two daughters, Dr. Gwen Elizabeth Jones of NJ, and Dr. Maura Alison Jones Moyle of WI, one brother, Edward R. Jones of MN, a niece, Lisa Sue Svobodny of SD, a nephew, Brian Jones of MN, and four grandchildren, Cameron and Liam (Gwen), Lauren and Erin (Maura). He is also survived by his faithful companion, Kirvana.

Funeral services will be Monday September 26, 2016 at 2:00 P.M. at the Yaksich-Long Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Mark Crotinger officiating, burial will be Tuesday September 27, 2016 at the Santa Fe National Cemetery in Santa Fe, NM.

Arrangements and celebration of love for Richard E. Jones are under the direction of the Yaksich-Long Funeral Home of Raton.

Full Military Honors will be provided by the Colfax County Young Marines.

    Richard was a true gentleman and scholar, with a sense of humor that will be missed by those who had the privilege of knowing him. He attended a small Christmas gathering at our home, and when I thanked him for coming, his immediate response was, “Thank you for having the courage to invite me.” Steve and Rosalie Block
