State Police Agents Arrest Former Superintendent for Forging Qualifications

Albuquerque, NM – Around 7:30 this evening, New Mexico State Police Investigations Bureau agents arrested Charles Trujillo (43) of Mora, NM, on multiple counts of forgery and fraud charges.

The background of this arrest stemmed from a State Police investigation into Mr. Trujillo after being notified last October by the Public Education Department (PED) of discrepancies in Mr. Trujillo’s personnel file.  The PED contacted State Police after receiving information from the Las Vegas Optic in Las Vegas, New Mexico, that Mr. Charles Trujillo’s education licenses were allegedly fraudulent. At the time of the report, Mr. Trujillo was employed as the superintendent of the Mora Independent School District.
Throughout the investigation, agents discovered Mr. Trujillo submitted multiple applications with fraudulent and falsified information in order to apply for and subsequently obtain job positions for which he was unqualified within the Pecos Independent School District and the Mora Independent School District.  Mr. Trujillo also submitted forged licenses to obtain these positions indicating he had certifications and degree qualifications which he actually did not have.  As a result of the fraudulent applications submitted, Mr. Trujillo was hired as the associate superintendent of the Pecos Independent School District and later as the superintendent of the Mora Independent School District, both positions for which he was otherwise unqualified.
The New Mexico State Police worked closely with the PED and the Fourth Judicial District Attorney’s office in Las Vegas throughout this investigation to bring forth the charges .  Mr. Trujillo will be booked into the San Miguel County Detention Center.
