In Loving Memroy of Robert L. Austin

Robert L. Austin, age 71, died Tuesday, July 19, 2016 at his home in Texline, Texas.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Central Time on Saturday, July 23, 2016 at the Texline United Methodist Church in Texline, Texas with Rev. Jeff Bayley officiating. Burial will follow in the Texline Cemetery by Hass Funeral Directors of Clayton, New Mexico.

austinRobert L. Austin was born on August 22, 1944 in Canton, Kansas to Robert Roland Austin and Louis Lee (White) Austin. He graduated from Amistad High School and joined the US Air Force where he served from 1965 until 1969 as a B-52 bomber maintenance crew chief during the Vietnam War. Robert worked for Tri-State Recycling for 21 years. He married Barbara (Padilla) Hunter on December 31, 1996. Robert was very giving of himself to everyone that needed anything and he never met a stranger. Robert was preceded in death by his parents and by a sister, Kathy Austin.

SURVIVORS:

WIFE: Barbara Austin of Texline, Texas.

1 SON: Ryan Austin and his wife Holli of Pearland, Texas.

1 DAUGHTER: Aryn Crisman and her husband Bryan of Belton, Texas.

2 STEP-SONS: Adrian Hidalgo and Richy Hidalgo and his wife Christina all of Clayton, New Mexico.

3 STEP-DAUGHTERS: April Geary and her husband Heath of Clayton, New Mexico, Lisa Hunter of Houston, Texas and Gina Rubio and her husband Jullian of Clovis, New Mexico.

17 GRANDCHILDREN: James Hidalgo, Cassie Geary, Alex Hidalgo, Lashon Hidalgo, Koy Geary, Drew Hidalgo, Keegan Geary, Jonoven Hidalgo, Kaylee Crisman, Laura Austin, Brody Crisman, Reese Rubio, William Hunter, Mateo Hunter, Liam Austin, Kloey Rubio and Shanlee Crisman.

In Loving Memory of Cecil Glenn “Tiny” Kite

Cecil Glenn “Tiny” Kite age 74 of Eagle Nest, NM, passed away Friday July 15, 2016 in Taos, NM.

 

CECIL KITEHe was born April 8, 1942 in Cimarron, NM, the son of Bruce Olive and Jewell Arlene Blades-Kite. Tiny was owner and operator of Kite Construction and Kite Outfitters and a life time member of the Elks Lodge.

He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Raymond Kite and son Gerry Dean Kite. Tiny is survived by his wife Pam of the home, sons Nate Kite of Eagle Nest, NM and Greg Kite of Sheridan, WY. Daughter Stacey Kite and husband Carl Seward of Eagle Nest, NM, mother in law Rosemary Brandenburg of Red River, NM and eleven grandchildren.

Graveside services will be Saturday July 23, 2016 at 10:00 A.M at the E Town cemetery . In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to the Eagle Nest volunteer Fire Dept. or the Eagle Nest Fire Works fund at P.O. Box 168 Eagle Nest, NM 87718 ATTN: Cathy Coppy.

In Loving Memory of Rosie Zolin

Rosie Zolin age 97 of Raton, passed away Friday July 15, 2016 in Raton. She was born April 16, 1920 in Kiowa, NM, the daughter of Gusippe and Marchelene Zolin. 

 

Rosie was preceded in death by her parents, sister Anne Zolin and brother Joe P. Zolin.

 

IMG_8925She is survived by nephew Frank Ferri and wife Sandy of Raton, great niece Brenda Ferri of Raton, Great nephew Mike Ferri of Denver, CO, great great nieces Erika Ferri of Raton and Dorian McGinnis of Rio Rancho, NM. And great great nephew Michael Ferri of Las Cruces, NM. Rosie is also survived by numerous cousins, friends and family.

 

Graveside services will be held Tuesday, July 26, 2016 at 10 am at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Raton.

Homicide Suspected in Death of Raton Woman

UPDATE UPDATE…Friday, July 22.

RPD Chief John Garcia informed KRTN on Friday morning that a suspect has been identified in the case, but could not release the suspects identity while evidence is being gathered for a possible arrest warrant.

Garcia said no new additional information or breaks in the case have occured as the investigation continues.

On Wednesday, July 20th at approximately 9:33 am, Raton Police, Colfax County Sheriff’s Deputies and Raton EMS were dispatched to 708 Sugarite Ave. in Raton in reference to a female not conscious or breathing.

When officers arrived on the scene they located the female victim, identified as Mandy Vanlandingham, 36, of Raton in the bathroom area with a noticeable wound to her lower right abdomen.  Vanlandingham was unresponsive and EMS was unable to resuscitate her.

An autopsy has been ordered by the Office of the Medical Investigator (OMI) and a search warrant was obtained for the residence and the scene and was processed by the Raton Police Dept. with the assistance of the NM State Police and the Colfax County Sheriffs Office.

The incident is being investigated as a homicide, and anyone with any information related to this case is asked to contact the Raton Police Department immediately at 575-445-2704.

In Loving Memory of Kenneth Andrew Odell

Kenneth Andrew Odell, of Raton, New Mexico, beloved son, brother and friend, passed away on July 14, 2016, at 6:20 a.m. at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Santa Fe, with his family at his side. He was 56 years old. He is now free of pain and suffering, and at peace with the Lord after many years of dealing with illness.

 

Ken was born in Miami, Oklahoma on February 4, 1960. In 1967, his family moved to northeastern Arizona where he spent his childhood and school years. After graduating from Ganado High School in 1978, he lived for many years in the Southwest as well as in New Hampshire. He attended Oklahoma Baptist University and Yavapai Community College, and worked mainly in food service/restaurant management. Some of the establishments where he worked included Fred Harvey at the Petrified Forest and Grand Canyon; the Good Egg in Phoenix; the Shaker Inn, The Anchorage, New London Inn, and Shorty’s Roadhouse in New Hampshire; and the Santa Fe Café in Raton. Ken worked most recently as an office manager for Atlas Energy in Raton.

 

odellKenny loved reading and had an impressive collection of books, especially historical fiction, and his music collection was diverse and extensive. As a young man he played both piano and horns quite well.
He enjoyed watching professional tennis, and was an Oklahoma Thunder and Sooner fan. He liked to hike the trails around Lake Maloya, and also enjoyed drives out in the country to view the wildlife.
He was a wonderful “daddy” to his two “Boys” — dogs Gunther and Gideon, who are very sad and are missing him.

 

 

He was predeceased by his father, Albert (Andy) S. Odell Jr. and sister, Andrea Jeannette Odell.

 

Ken is survived by his mother, Doris Odell of Raton, sister Cynthia Odell of Waikoloa HI, brother Douglas Odell of Ardmore OK, nephew Matthew Odell (wife Jana and grand-nieces Lillie and Aurora), nephews Philip and Byron Staley, and niece Andrea Staley, as well as many dear relatives and friends.
Doris, Cindy and Doug would like to express their thankfulness for all the support and love shown to Ken and them during his illness, and now in their time of grieving: family and friends, the Family Worship Center, Debbie Trujillo and Flowerland, Ken’s workplace, the medical team at St. Vincent’s Hospital and Regional Cancer Center, and the American Cancer Society in Santa Fe. A special thank you to Ken’s good friend Mary Russell for helping take care of the “boys”.
The family is very thankful to God for the gift of Ken’s life, and the blessing of the time they had with him. Ken is already so greatly missed.

 

A gathering to celebrate and remember Ken will be held at Family Worship Center at 219 Kearney Avenue in Raton on Sunday afternoon, July 24, 2016. This will be an informal gathering, and friends and family are welcome to drop in anytime between 3:00 and 5:00 pm.

 

Memorial contributions may be made in Ken’s honor to the local chapter of the American Cancer Society, Gideons International, the Family Worship Center and/or the Raton Humane Society.

In Loving Memory of Elsie Fernandez (Benavidez)

Elsie Fernandez (Benavidez), resident of Springer died peacefully July 14, 2016 at the Palacios residence in Las Cruces at the age of 88.

Elsie was born on December 2, 1927 in Colorado, NM to Sinforiano and Francisca Benavidez. Elsie grew up in Southern New Mexico where she met her husband in Las Cruces. She married Estevan C. Fernandez, a rancher on April 23, 1949, celebrating 67 years of marriage this past April. They would settle in Northern New Mexico. Soon thereafter they started a family, raising two sons and five daughters. Elsie was a devoted homemaker and valued her faith. Family was precious to Elsie and in her roles as a mother and grandmother she both handed down and created many family traditions and stories. Elsie found joy in spending time with family and friends throwing horseshoes, washers, playing pool and bowling.

Elsie is survived by her husband, Estevan C. Fernandez of the family home; 2 sons, Samuel E. Fernandez, Springer and John Steve Fernandez and spouse, Dixie Fernandez, Clayton; 5 daughters, Rose Marie Esquibel and spouse, Walter Esquibel, Raton, Catherine Van Dyke and spouse, Kym Van Dyke, Layton, UT, Barbara Madrid and spouse, Ricky Madrid, Las Cruces, Betty Segura and spouse, David Segura, Raton and Rita Palacios and spouse, Robert Palacios Sr., Las Cruces. She has 21 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.

Elsie is preceded in death by father, Sinforiano Benavidez; mother, Francisca R. Benavidez; brothers, Henry Benavidez, Joseph Benavidez, Jesus Benavidez and sister, Jennie Benavidez.

She will be missed here on Earth, but we rejoice in the fact that she is forever in the presence of our loving God.

A celebration of life will be held Friday July 22, 2016 at Saint Joseph Springer & Immaculate Conception Church 605 5th St, Springer, NM 87747. Recitation of The Most Holy Rosary will be at 9:30am with the Solemn Mass of the Resurrection with Father Emmanuel Izuka as the Celebrant at 10am followed by the reception. Burial will be Monday July 25, 2016 at the Santa Fe National Cemetery at 9:45am 501 N. Guadalupe St, Santa Fe, NM 87501.
In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to Mesilla Valley Hospice 299 E. Montana Ave, Las Cruces, NM 88005.
Funeral Arrangements for Elsie Fernandez are under the direction of the Alderette-Pomeroy Funeral Home.
