Notice of Open Fire Ban For City of Raton

 Notice of Open Fire Ban

EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY (04-12-2016)

By ORDER OF RATON FIRE & EMERGENCY SERVICES

Due to environmental issues (weather conditions, dry fuel loads, and extremely escalating fire conditions), topographical considerations (mountainous terrain, brush and forest covered areas throughout the city) and public safety concerns (people, structures and property), the following fire restrictions are ordered for the City of Raton:

  • Fire ban on all open burning within the City of Raton, including open fires, camp fires and the igniting and burning in fire pits are prohibited. Small portable screened fire enclosures and gas barbecues are permitted at private residences.
  • Discarding any smoking material, matches and other ignition sources is prohibited.
  • No Burn Permits shell be issued.
  • Extinguishment authority. The fire company officer is authorized to order the extinguishment by the person responsible or the fire department of open burning that creates or adds to a hazardous or objectionable situation.

This order supersedes all other orders and is in effect until it is deemed that this order can be modified.

This order is enforceable by law, and a violation of which carries penalties and provisions.

Signed this day, Tuesday, the 12th of April 2016.
