In Loving Memory of Julian Roger Charrette

Julian Roger Charrette (Pops Skelly, Grandpa, Grumpa, Grandpa Tinka, Papi, Unc, Uncle Ju, Roger, Uncle J, Judy…) from Raton, New Mexico. July 30, 1941 – April 7, 2016. After living a full life, Julian R. Charrette has left this world to join the ones who went before him.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Pete and Stella Charrette; his four brothers, Pete, Steve, Gary, Ruben, and Great Granddaughter Arcadia Jaramillo.

Julian is survived by his children, James A. Seligman and wife Ana of Rio Rancho, NM, Zachary Charrette and wife Olga of Rio Rancho NM, Nicholas Bryant of Boulder City, NV, Ann Marie Charrette, Julian Charrette, and Melanie Charrette, their mothers Betty Aguilar and Barbara Charrette , and God Daughter Estrella Charrette-Gallegos, all of Albuquerque, NM.

Julian was born in Raton, NM to Pete and Stella Charrette. He grew up in Raton and various parts of California, but graduated from Raton High in 1958. Julian would spend the next 56 years starting our family and showing us the ropes of road-tripping, camping, fishing, ice fishing, tile setting, and basic survival in the wild, on I-40 and beyond. He was a hard worker and his tile work was well known (he “wasn’t the best tile setter in town, but he was in the top two”).  He loved the Oakland Raiders and attended many games. His work took him from Pasadena to New York and anywhere in between (Go Cornhuskers!). He enjoyed traveling to the Oakland – San Francisco Bay area to visit our family and to get a clam chowder on the Wharf, but he always called Albuquerque home.

charetteHe could often be found with his nose in a book or the newspaper, reading the obituaries, doing crossword puzzles, soaking up the sun, cooking up a delicious meal, writing recipes down, taking notes about the world around him, or dancing and singing to music. His children and grandchildren meant the world to him and he always showed them great love. His Nieces, Nephews, Cousins and Friends adored him and will miss his contagious laugh and his memories.

Honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren: Theresa, Joseph, Lucas, and Daniel Seligman, Marena, Estevan, Jazmaine, Ceasar, Andres Jerika, John Paul Julian Charrette (also his BFF), and Louis Silva.

Services will be Friday, April 15 at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church 9502 4th Street NW Albuquerque, NM 87114. Rosary will begin at 8:00 a.m. with a Mass following at 9:00 a.m. Interment with the Immediate family will follow at a later date. Reception will be held at the American Legion Post 13 from 12-5:00 p.m.

We will miss you forever, Dad. Thanks for everything!
