Aging Infrastructure, Regulations Drive Future Raton Water Projects

By Marty Mayfield

KRTN Multi-Media –

KRTN sat down with Raton Water Works General Manager Dan Campbell Friday, March 18th to learn more about some of the departments upcoming projects that are being driven by new regulations and aging infrastructure issues. Watch the video as Campbell explains the work to be done at the lake, at the water filter plant and the waste water plant in south Raton.

Work at Lake Maloya will include enlarging the emergency spillway on the east end of the dam. Restoration work that has been going on since the Track Fire is almost complete and is now up to Mother Nature.

Raton Water Filter Plant sits in North Raton and overlooks town as it purifies the water Raton residents drink. Several projects are planned for the filter plant in the coming years to meet new regulations and to simply upgrade equipment and structures.

The waste water treatment plant in south Raton will also need upgrades to meet new regulations coming down from regulators.
