In Loving Memory of Gerald K. Maes

Gerald K. Maes, age 81, passed at Sangre de Cristo Hospice and Palliative Care on February 17, 2016. He was surrounded by his family as he was lifted up by the Holy Spirit and taken home.

 

He was born in Trinidad, Colorado on January 22, 1935 to Marcella (Griswold) and Gilbert Maes.

On  June 1, 1957, he was united in marriage to Jo Ann Buccola at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Trinidad, CO.

 

Gerald Maes PicGerald had a wonderful life and loved biking, German shepherds, travel, woodworking and his family. He was a comedian, retired Army veteran and a big part of the community. He spent a large part of his life giving back to others as a social worker.

He also worked as Deputy Administrator with the Model City Program. Gerald was a member of the Colorado National Guard for 21 years, a lifetime member Knights of Columbus #1072, St. Vincent DePaul and chairman of the local Salvation Army for one year and a member of the Senior Citizens Center.

 

He supported Holy Trinity Grade School and Trinidad Catholic High School for many years. Gerald was a member of Holy Trinity Parish.

Together with his wife, they enjoyed living in Deming, New Mexico in the winter and came back to spend summers in Trinidad.

 

Preceding him in death are parents, Marcella and Gilbert Maes and son Wesley Maes.

Survivors are wife Jo Ann Maes, home address, daughters Valerie Maes, Trinidad, Audrey (Bradley) Serazio, Montrose, CO, grandchildren, Shawn Maes, Nathan Maes, sister Marilynn Maes Breedlove and other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be Monday from 2PM-7PM at the Comi Chapel.
Funeral Services will Tuesday, February 23, 2016 with Rosary at 9AM at Comi Chapel followed by the Funeral Mass at 10AM at Sebastiani Gym.
Entombment will follow at the Good Shepherd Mausoleum, Trinidad Catholic Cemetery, with graveside honors conducted by Ft. Carson Honor Guard.

Honorary pallbearer is Bob Tapia.

Active pallbearers are Shawn Maes, Nathan Maes, Bradley Serazio and Bob Crittenden.
