In Loving Memory of Betty L. Peterman

 

Betty L. Peterman, 89, longtime Raton resident, died December 3, 2015 in Scottsdale, AZ at Sunrise Senior Assisted Living.  Betty and her husband Robert Peterman moved to Raton in 1961.  She relocated to Scottsdale, AZ in 2003.

Betty was born in Aberdeen, South Dakota May 15, 1926 to Wayne and Josephine Spatz. She grew up on the family homestead in Perkins County South Dakota. She graduated from Hettinger High School in 1943 and attended Black Hills Teachers College in Spearfish, South Dakota.  She taught in a one room school house in Perkins County before moving to Seattle, Washington where she worked for Boeing after WW II. She then moved to Ontario, Oregon where she met her husband Robert Peterman and they were married on August 11, 1951.  After living in Oregon and Idaho for several years they moved to New Mexico in 1957.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Wayne and Josephine Spatz, her husband Robert in 1994, two sisters Virginia Wickersham and Ruth Stillman and one brother Wayne Spatz, Jr.

She is survived by her children Barbara Carlini of Raton, Barry (Janie) Peterman of Scottsdale, AZ and Kristin (Floyd) Sanders of Luera Ranch near Magdalena, NM; five grandchildren, Susan (Scott) Parker of Raton, Emilia Carlini of Raton, Jill (Jim) Fernandez of Trinidad, CO, Kurt Sanders of Scottsdale, AZ and Ryan Sanders of Magdalena, NM; two great-grandsons Jordan Carlini of Las Cruces, NM and Jason Parker of Raton. One brother Hartley (Frances) Spatz and sister-in-law Janene Spatz also survive along with several nieces and nephews.

Betty was a wife and homemaker and was a long time member of Chapter N PEO. She was also a member of Zion’s Lutheran Church in Trinidad, CO.

candlesCremation has taken place and a memorial service for Betty Peterman will be held at Zion’s Lutheran Church in Trinidad, CO at 1:00 pm on Saturday, January 30, 2016 with Pastor Andrea Doeden presiding.  A private family inurnment will take place at Fairmont Cemetery in Raton, NM.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Zion’s Lutheran Church, Trinidad, CO or to Chapter N PEO % Loretta Butler, Raton, NM.
