In Loving Memory of Harold A. “Hal” Donovan

Harold A. “Hal” Donovan, 82, a resident of Rio Rancho, NM passed away on September 21, 2015. He was born October 10, 1932 in Raton, NM to Dr. Harold E. and Irene Donovan. He graduated from Arizona State University and joined the United States Air Force. After returning to New Mexico he was Associate Athletic Director in charge of Finance for the University of New Mexico. After leaving UNM he was the City Manager of Rio Rancho and retired in 1996. He loved to hunt and was an avid golfer for many years. He worked with the Senior Golfers of New Mexico for 20 years and currently with the Eastern New Mexico Senior Golf Association.

He was preceded in death by his parents Dr. and Mrs. Harold Donovan, two wives Jeanie and Carmen, sister and brother-in-law Barbara and Andy Gillespie, step-brother Don Stephenson and brother-in-law Warren Krause.

Hal is survived by his three children Cheryl Donovan-Wildes and husband David, Bill Donovan and wife Madeline, and David Donovan and wife Kathleen; grandchildren Kyle and partner Jennifer, Dianna and husband Ryan, Lauren and husband Andy, Zachary, Jacob, Olivia, Alexia, Sophia and great-grandchildren Donovan and Harper; sister-in-law Joan Fowler and husband Glenn, sister-in-law Shirl Edwards-Beery and husband Joe Walker, and sister-in-law Dolores Krause; nieces Donna Martin and husband Don, Carol Smallwood and husband Bill, Dacia Corder and husband Kent, Doug Krause and wife Ann, Hollace Stephenson; and nephew Shawn Stephenson and wife April; and great nieces and nephews.

donovanHal will be greatly missed by his family and many, many friends.

The family will have a gathering at 800 Palmas Altas Drive SE in Rio Rancho on Saturday, October 3, 2015 from 2pm to 6pm for those who wish to help us toast this wonderful and amazing man. “Shorts Mandatory” in Hal’s memory.
