Angelina Montera of Trinidad, CO (formerly of Aguilar) passed from this life to her heavenly life in Trinidad, CO on August 18, 2015.
Angelina was born in Aguilar, Colorado on May 5, 1923 to the union of Mary (Marino) Scarafiotti and Paolo Scarafiotti, both preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her husband Frank (Francesco) Montera and her son, Frank G. Montera.
As a young girl, Angelina attended school in Aguilar, played with her cousins, Mike, Mary, and Jeanna Scarafiotti, vacationed with her family, and even traveled to Italy with her parents. She was especially close to her maternal uncle, Jack Marino.
Angelina met, fell in love with, and married Frank Montera in 1938 and moved to Chandler, CO. After briefly living in the coal camp of Delagua, Colorado, Angelina, Frank and their growing family moved back to Aguilar.
As a young mother, Angelina worked various jobs before becoming the head cook for the Aguilar Head Start program and eventually the Aguilar School District from which she retired.
She was a strong supporter of the community and school district of Aguilar. She followed Aguilar sports and arts programs enthusiastically, especially when her children participated. A devoted Roman Catholic, Angelina attended mass regularly, was involved with many church celebrations and volunteered her time cleaning St. Anthony’s church in Aguilar. A notable achievement for Angelina was her participation in Weight Watchers and earning the Gold Key Award for attaining her goal in less than a year.
Mom was a prolific cook and baker. She was famous in the family for her holiday meals and the baking of Christmas Cookies and Easter bread and “dollies”. Her homemade pizza and her spaghetti sauce drew family and friends alike to the Montera home.
All this was secondary to Angelina’s focus in life, the support, nurturing, and loving of her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchild.
Left to cherish her memory are her children Roberta, Paul (Karen), and David (Teresa) and daughter-in-law Joan. She is also survived by her brother-in-law Pete Montera and sister-in-law, Josephine Montero. Her surviving grandchildren are Don (Lydia) Paulovich, Douglas (Nancy) Montera, Marlo (Jason) Horsford, Regina Montera, Kristina (Gary) Vezzani, Roman Montera, and Talia Montera. Surviving great and great-great grandchildren include Chelsea (Jeff) Davis, Luca Montera, Tuscany Montera, Jack Horsford, Allie Horsford, Dominic Bonsignore, Brianna Bonsignore, Gianna Vezzani, Dario Vezzani, and Lylih Davis. Special cousins, nephews, and nieces also survive Angelina.
Pallbears are grandsons; Don Paulovich, Douglas Montera, Roman Montera and nephews John Marchiol, Steve Marchiol, Ed Griego.
Angelina’s family extents a very grateful thank you to the entire staff of the Trinidad Inn Nursing Home, your loving care for our mother was extraordinary. A very special thank you to family member, Carol Riggio, for watching over, caring for, and loving our mother in her time at the Trinidad Inn.
Visitation will be Sunday from 6PM-8PM at the Comi Chapel.
Rosary will be Monday, August 24, 2015 at Noon at the Comi Funeral Home, followed by the celebration of the Funeral Mass at 1PM, Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church.
Entombment at the Lady of Sorrows Mausoleum to follow at the Trinidad Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers and food, persons wishing to do so, may make a donations to the Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church Restoration Fund.
