Raton hosted a first round state tourney game with Clayton Wednesday evening and it seems to be a runaway game by the end of the second inning but Clayton rallied and put together a couple of good innings and brought the game to within six before Raton rallied in the fifth.
The bats connected and the defense worked like a well oiled machine for the first two innings for Raton as the boys took a 13-0 lead. The third inning went to the goose egg and then Coach Mike Marez started changed pitchers to give his freshman starter Cole Medina a breather. In came Dylon Query who was quickly replaced by Ethan Washburn. Both Clayton and Raton pitchers got wild and sent batters to first base after the batters got hit with wild pitches.
Jonathan Cabrieles came in and finished the game for Raton but not before Clayton could put six base runners over home plate.
Raton rallied in the bottom of the fifth when a couple of walks by wild pitches from Clayton pitcher Thomas Sullivan loaded the bases. A single and a another single brought five runners across home plate for Raton and the 18-8 win.
