Tigers

While it was a cool cloudy day in Raton it was a hot day on the field for Raton ball players as the Raton Tigers hosted Tucumcari for a single district game Saturday afternoon and pulled off a win after a 2-2 tie in the first inning.

Actually it wasn’t tied long as the Tigers rallied the bats and put five runners across home plate in the first inning to take lead and hold on to it till the end of the game. Raton went on to a second inning rally that added four more runs before both teams bats went cold. it was a defensive game for both teams until the fifth inning where Raton held Tucumcari scoreless and then added three runs to make it a 12-2 game for the win.

The last run on the board came after a wild pitch tagged William Holland with the bases loaded and a walk off score. During the fifth inning coach Mike Marez started to substitute some of his younger players in hopes of getting them some playing time before the end of the shortened 10-run rule game.

The Tigers are 3-0 in district play with an 8-11 overall record.

Lady Tigers

Over at Jim Wade field where the girls started their game at 2:00 p.m. where they managed to end their game before the boys game by shutting down the Lady Eagles. Lady Tiger pitcher Natasha Archuleta faced only nine batters and ended the game with only 25 pitches as the Lady Tiger bats got hot and with the help of several walks put 15 girls across home plate by the end of the second inning.

A change in the line up for game two put Tina Jaramillo on the mound where she pitched to only 12 players. The ladies bats were hot in the second game with fewer walks, yet Raton put 22 runs on the board. If Tina Jaramillo had been able to straighten the ball out she would have had two homers as she put the ball over the left field fence just outside the foul line, each time with at least two base runners on.

The Lady Tigers extend their winning streak to 13 games overall and going undefeated in district play.
