Jack D. Boggs, age 84, died Friday, March 20, 2015 in Clayton, New Mexico.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, March 24, 2015 at the First Baptist Church in Clayton, New Mexico with Rev. Billy Rammage Officiating. Burial will follow in the Clayton Memorial Cemetery by Hass Funeral Directors of Clayton.

Jack D. Boggs was born on December 3, 1930 in Stead, New Mexico to Fred L. Boggs and Lizzie (Kile) Boggs. He attended school in Sedan through the 11th grade and graduated from Clayton High School in 1950. Jack married Beatrice (Gove) Boggs on December 24, 1955 in Clayton, New Mexico. After graduating from high school, he went to work at the Farmers & Stockmans Bank and farmed nights and weekends. He worked for the Union County Leader, the Galveston Tribune in Galveston, Texas and the Amarillo Globe News in Amarillo, Texas. While living in Amarillo, he bought 15 rental units and he and Bea worked on them nights and weekends. He started feeding cattle and was involved in the building of Clayton Cattle Feeders. He left the Globe News to work as Assistant Manager of the feedlot in 1970. He bought a place north of Sedan and farmed and ranched. At one time he was farming 1000 acres. In 1980 he retired from farming. Jack and Bea started selling and installing satellite dishes and solar systems. They worked with that until the small satellite dishes came out. Jack helped get the Sedan Fire Department started and he was on the properties committee at the Baptist Church. He enjoyed repairing and painting the church. On one occasion, he visited with the deacons about painting the sanctuary. One of the deacons spoke up and said “Jack, if you would pay more attention to the preacher instead of looking up, you wouldn’t see those spots on the ceiling”. He was baptized as a member of the First Baptist Church in Clayton, New Mexico in 1996. Jack enjoyed taking the kids camping and later the grandkids. Although Jack was handicapped, he never let it slow him down or keep him from doing what he wanted to do. He always found a way. Jack was preceded in death by his brothers; Ernest Boggs, James Parker and Harry Boggs, sisters; Mable Parker, Beaulah Ryan, Opal Monroe, Margaret Boyett and Nettie Wheelock and a great-granddaughter; Brylee Anne Smith.
