In Loving Memory of Doris Winnifred “Winnie” Rice

Doris Winnifred “Winnie” Rice, age 92, died Friday, March 20, 2015 in Dumas, Texas. 

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, March 28, 2015 at the Don R. Wood Auditorium in Clayton, New Mexico with Jim Price, Diane Knaub and Ruth Henderson Officiating. Burial will follow in the Clayton Memorial Cemetery in Clayton by Hass Funeral Directors of Clayton. 

Doris Winnifred “Winnie” Rice was born on July 5, 1922 in Grenville, New Mexico to Joseph Clifton Douglass and Myrtle Iva (Smith) Douglass. Winnie attended school and graduated from high school in Grenville, New Mexico and attended business school in Amarillo, Texas. Winnie married Orville Elmo Rice on June 13, 1948 in Mt. Dora, New Mexico and he preceded her in death on March 17, 2002. They lived in Union County until 1955 when they moved to Dumas, Texas. In addition to her parents and husband, Winnie was preceded in death by a son; Douglas Rice on March 13, 2014 and by 6 sisters and a brother. 

SURVIVORS: 

1 DAUGHTER: Wynell Quackenbush of Albuquerque, New Mexico. 

1 SON: David Rice and his wife Juanita of Tyler, Texas. 

1 DAUGHTER-IN-LAW: Mari Rice of Longmont, Colorado. 

6 GRANDCHILDREN: Jason Quackenbush and his wife Stacy, Jocelyn McConnell and her husband Brandon, Rachelle Atkinson, Tyler Rice and his wife Kristen, Crystal Havins and Lindsey Heaton. 

9 Great-Grandchildren 

1 SISTER: Dollie Oldham and her husband Aubrey of Albuquerque, New Mexico. 

MEMORIALS: The family asks that memorials be made to the Memorial Hospice of Dumas, 209 S. Bliss, Dumas, Texas 79029.
