In Loving Memory of Felix Natividad Fernandez

Felix Natividad Fernandez, 84, or Raton, passed away early Friday morning, January 23, 2015 at Miner’s Colfax Medical Center, after a brief illness.

Felix was born March 31, 1930 in Wagon Mound, New Mexico the son of Jose Natividad and Margarita (Medina) Fernandez. He attended schools in Wagon Mound and enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1948. Felix served as an infantryman in the U.S. Army, serving in Korea. He married Susana Martinez on November 24, 1952.

Felix and Susie raised their children in Maxwell and moved the family to Raton in 1964. Felix worked for and retired from the AT&SF railroad after working many years as a trackman.

Felix enjoyed watching horse and dog racing and loved nothing more than sitting on his porch chair watching the neighborhood activity. Felix is survived by his children, Roy Fernandez (Leslie), Shirley Tapia (Andrew), Henry “Hedge” Fernandez (companion Donna Munden), and Manuel “Doc” Martinez, all of Raton. He is lovingly remembered by his ten grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren, with another grandson due soon. He is also survived by two brothers, Ernest Fernandez (Fidelia) of Jerome, Idaho and Tony Bernal of Maxwell, one sister Elsie Kurtze of San Bernardino, California, and sister-in-law Josie Fernandez of Jerome, Idaho. He was preceded in death by his parents, and infant son LeRoy in 1955, his beloved wife Susie in 1989, and his oldest son Frank in 2013. Three Brothers, Joe, Ben, and George also preceded him in death. Numerous nieces, nephews, and godchildren also survive. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

The family wishes to thank Raton Nursing and Rehab staff and therapist, Dr. Loretta Conder, and the doctors and staff of the MCMC for their care and attention to Felix in his last months. No services will be held at Felix’s request. Cremation has occurred and a private family burial will be held at a later date at the Maxwell Cemetery. Arrangements for Felix are under the care and direction of the Alderette Pomeroy Funeral Home of Raton.
