In Loving Memory of Josephine M. Garcia

Josephine M. Garcia, age 95, died Tuesday, December 2, 2014, in Clayton, New Mexico. 

Rosary will be recited at 7:00 P.M. on Friday, December 5 by Fr. Lurdu Marianna Yekkerala and Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Saturday, December 6 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Clayton with Fr. Joel Bugas as Celebrant. Burial will follow in the Clayton Memorial Cemetery by Hass Funeral Directors of Clayton. 

Josephine M. Garcia was born on January 4, 1919 in Pasamonte, New Mexico to Fructoso Garcia, Sr. and Modesta (Duncan) Garcia. A lifelong resident of Union County, New Mexico, Josephine attended school in Pennington and later at Clayton High School after her family moved to Clayton. Josephine married Steve Garcia on September 24, 1938 in Clayton, New Mexico and he preceded her in death on December 16, 1994. Josephine was a lifetime member of the VFW auxiliary in Clayton and worked at Smithsons, Red’s Café, the Nu Way Café, the Rabbit Ear Café when it was owned by the Pettis family and for Kings Bakery for many years. Josephine loved to dance and she loved her family. In addition to her husband and parents, Josephine was preceded in death by 6 brothers; Vidal Garcia, Louis A. Garcia, Salome Garcia, Emilio Garcia, Frank A. Garcia and Fructuoso Garcia, Jr. 1 sister; Rafaelita Tixier, a step-son; Wilfred Garcia and by 3 grandchildren. 

SURVIVORS: 

3 DAUGHTERS: Gloria Garcia and Anita L. Miera and her husband Epifanio all of Clayton, New Mexico and Jerri L. Garcia and her husband Alfonso of Guymon, Oklahoma. 

3 SONS: Freddie J. Garcia and his wife Hazel of Phoenix, Arizona, Steve R. Garcia and his wife Esperanza of Garden Grove, California and Michael A. Garcia and his wife Paula of Clayton, New Mexico. 

1 STEP-DAUGHTER: Kathryn Sandoval of Trinidad, Colorado. 

1 SISTER: Cleo Barbara of Albuquerque, New Mexico. 

16 Grandchildren, 27 Great-Grandchildren, 11 Great-Great-Grandchildren. 

And numerous nieces and nephews. 

MEMORIALS: The family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Josephine’s memory to the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church Building Fund or to have a Mass for Josephine.
