In Loving Memory of Steve M. Ortega

Steve M. Ortega was born April 5, 1927 in Segundo, CO, and passed away Sunday November 23, 2014 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Steve was an avid baseball player who had a chance to try out for the LA Dodgers in 1956. He was also an avid sportsman who loved fishing, hunting, golf, boxing and helping others learn the sport of baseball.

Steve was very well known for playing baseball in the old coal mining camps in Cokedale, Ludlow, Trinidad, Valdez and many more mining camps in Colorado, Also in New Mexico, Brilliant and Raton Coal Camps. Steve was known as the best “southpaw” pitcher in the region in the 1040s and 50’s.

He is preceded in death by parents Norberto and Ann (Montoya) Ortega, his first wife Marie and his latest wife Delia in January 2014. His daughter Irene Cordova and son in law Robert Jaramillo.

Steve is survived by his sons, Mike and wife Aggie their sons Michael Wayne and Eric of Colorado Springs, CO; Steve and wife Tricia and their daughter Natausha and her daughters Kristol, Savannah, Kayla and Karla and sons Christian and Jarrod. Albert and wife Rhonda their sons Corey (Ashley) Ed (Patience) and Daniel (Melanie). Daughter Jeanette of Denver and her son Steven McMann. Lisha Jaramillo of Peoria, AZ her children Bobby (Mariana) and Rhonda (Trevon). Robin Romero and her husband Mark their sons Mark (Juanita) and Ryan. Brothers Joe Johnny and Bobby. Sisters Priscilla and Charolette and family. Granddaughter Dinelle Cordova and many great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.

Services were Saturday November 29, 2014 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Patrick’s-St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Raton.
