Ripley Park hosted the annual Christmas Tree lighting ceremony Saturday evening as the holiday season officially begins in Raton.

The day was a warm one for the end of November as Santa made his way to Ripley Park Saturday afternoon where he greeted hundreds of children taking pictures and handing out goodies before brightening the evening. Around dusk Santa walked over to the tree at and asked for the crowds help with his magic to light Raton’s Christmas Tree.

The countdown started and soon the tree light up with the colors of the season and the cheers of the crowd in attendance.

The crowd then retreated to 1st Street where the Electric Light display was underway with floats decorated in lights of the season and local shops were open displaying their wares and and some with hot coffee and cocoa. One local shop even offered scrumptious ice cream to shoppers.
