Rig Plummets Down Embankment on Hwy 39

About 8:56 am Thursday morning State Police in Tucumcari received a report of a vehicle accident on Hwy 39 at mile marker 40. Mile Marker 40 is about half way down David Hill which is east of Mosquero about eight miles.

State Police report that a well service rig, driven by Ruben Marquez (38) of Guymon, Oklahoma was south bound down David Hill when he failed to negotiate a hairpin turn and struck the guardrail. The rig went thru the guardrail and tumbled down an approximately 200 foot embankment to the valley floor below. State Police report that Marquez was ejected from the rig and died at the scene. He was not wearing a seatbelt according to State Police. 

 

In other State Police news Allen Gardner (22) of Farwell, Texas was arrested Wednesday after leading police from several agencies in New Mexico, Texas and Oklahoma on a high speed chase that finally ended near Boise City, Oklahoma. 

Charges for the incident were filed in Colfax County Magistrate Court this week, Gardner was charged with Aggravated fleeing a law enforcement officer, Receiving or transferring a stolen vehicle and persons under the influence of liquor/drugs. Gardner was determined to be under the influence of marijuana and heroin according to State Police.
