In Memory of Celso Baca

Celso Baca age 90 passed away on January 6, 2014 in Raton. He was born on July 28, 1923 to Cecilio and Delfenia Lopez Baca in Chimayo, New Mexico.

Celso had 6 brothers and one sister; Elijio, Ursolo, Juan, Miguel, Rosendo, Eliseo and baby sister Magdelena. He is survived by children Sally, Prudy, Johnny, Cleo, Patrick, Kathy, 21 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, 1 great-great granddaughter, and various nieces and nephews from Espanola and Santa Fe also survive.

Celso married his wife Beatrice Trujillo in 1951 in Raton. He was a World War 2 veteran where he served in the Navy Coast Guard in the South Pacific. He was part of the amphibian fleet. His dates of service were from 1943 to 1945. He was a seaman first class, he trained in handling of sentry dogs and traveled to places like Japan, Australia, the South Pacific and Hiroshima. Celso attended St. Michaels Collage in Santa Fe, NM after that he taught school at a primary level. He also received his Bachelors of Art from Metro State College in Denver, CO. He was an accountant in Boulder, worked in the Mines in Red River, New Mexico, the steel mill in Pueblo, Colorado he also worked for the highway department in Santa, Fe. He finally retired as a drug and alcohol counselor from Clayton, New Mexico. Celso loved being outdoors. He grew up loving fishing and spent a lot of time at Lake Maloya and Lake Alice. He was also a handy man he could fix anything using basic materials. Celso also loved to play his guitar and sing to the Lord. He was a man who feared God. He and Beatrice read their bible every day. They spent their time praying for their children and grandchildren. His prayers will be missed.

Celso was a great husband, father, grandpa and will be greatly missed. Psalms 23 was his favorite chapter in the bible. His favorite song was “One Day at a Time (Un Dia La Vez)” Celso and Beatrice went to revivals in New Mexico, Colorado, Texas, Kansas, and Oklahoma. He loved to share the word of our Father to all that he could. Celso was a wonderful and humble loving man it was very fitting that his home in Raton used to be a historical church.

A funeral service for Celso will be held on Wednesday January 8, 2014 at 2:00pm in the chapel of the Alderette Pomeroy Funeral home officiated by Julian Gutierrez. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

Arrangements for Celso Baca are under the direction of the Alderette Pomeroy Funeral Home of Raton.
