In Memory of Isabel J. Higbee

Isabel J. Higbee, beloved  Mother and Grandmother passed away in Denver, Colorado on January 10, 2014.

Isabel was born in Optimo, New Mexico on June 17, 1916, one of seven children of Adelina (Alcon) and Juan Juarros. 

In 1934, Isabel was united in marriage to Hilario Manzanares.  Six children were born of this union

After the death of her husband she was a cook at Holy Trinity Catholic School Cafeteria, where her children attended and she was an accomplished seamstress, making hundreds of prom, formal and squaw dresses.  She was most proud of being a self taught typist and learning to play the accordion. 

Later in life Isabel remarried and together with her husband, David L. Higbee owned and operated the successful Higbee Realty and Insurance Company for 25 years.

Preceeding her in death are parents, Adelina and Juan Juarros; husbands, Hilario Manzanares and David L. Higbee; children, Emilio (Sandy) Manzanares, Emily (Don) Price, Larry (Barbara) Manzanares; grandsons, Larry Manzanares and Daniel Schaefer;  siblings, Ricardo (Mary) Juarros, Salome (Tony) Planinsek,  Adelaida (Gilbert) Kemm;  brother-in- laws: Valentine Padilla, Tony Planinsek, Gilbert Kemm ;and son-in-law Don Price.

Survivors are children, Honorable Jesse (Kathryn) Manzanares, Trinidad, CO., Lillian (William) Schaefer, Evergreen, CO.,  Honorable Sylvia Manzanares, Denver, CO;  daughters-in-law, Sandy Manzanares and Barbara Massey, and son-in-law Joe Bruce;  grandchildren, Stanton (Nicki) Manzanares, Sheila (Steve) Dayton, Mickey Schultz, Jocelyn (Dennis) Schuler,  Lori (Greg) Bollendonk,  Lisa (Tom) Husband,  James Manzanares, William (Pam) Schaefer,  Michael Schaefer,  Patricia Schaefer,  Sarah (Geoff) Lindquist,  Kaitlin (Brendan) Carroll,  Jeff Manzanares and Chris Manzanares, siblings Adelina Padilla, Benjamin Juarros, Juan Juarros and Estela Juarros, 15 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Visitation will be Friday, from 11:00 AM – 12:30 PM at the Comi Chapel.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday January 17, 2014 at 1:00PM at Holy Trinity Catholic Church.

Interment will follow at the Trinidad Catholic Cemetery.

Active pallbearers are Mrs. Higbee’s grandchildren,  Sheila Dayton, Lori Bollendonk, James Manzanares, Michael Schaefer, Jeff Manzanares and Sarah Lindquist.
